I am surprisingly very disappointed in my stay here. It started off interesting, we found the front desk (which was moved because of the recent fire) and got checked in even though the staff was a bit short with us, still kind though. My husband and I went here as a small “honeymoon” trip because we eloped this past Sunday and we stayed in the King Jacuzzi Room.
Before getting to our room we noticed a lot of unmarked parking, it is very difficult to figure out where to park and it’s all gravel/hilly. The room itself was very nice, cleaned pretty well, had a good amount of space, the water was ALWAYS warm in the bath (however I wish the jacuzzi had slightly more of a deep clean because there were some random floating pieces of gunk), the air conditioning was perfect, we had a couple extra sheets/blankets that we used for the pullout couch (which was unfortunately where the TV was instead of in front of the bed), and overall pretty comfy! The WiFi is good however you can’t connect any Roku devices for Netflix/disney/etc to the TV or they will “make you pay to have someone come fix/look at the building” because all of the TVs are connected to the same dish. Not to mention, the TV comes with Netflix etc. downloaded but it doesn’t work and you can only watch cable.
Moving on to the pool. This was where we planned to spend most of our time for the weekend. Incredibly disappointed and disgusted. We went in and got towels (all of their body towels are just an oversized hand towel, even in the main rooms), which is fine for us because we’re smaller people. When we walked into the pool, the floors were concrete, cracked, and dirty looking. Immediately the temperature was cold in the room and did not smell like “clean pool”. We didn’t even step foot into the pool because it was so cold and the moment we got into the hot tub we were completely still because it was too cold to move. We literally felt cold water being pushed into the tub because so much of the water was draining into the pool itself that it couldn’t keep up. The jets didn’t even work and neither did the sauna. Worst of all it was so dirty! Even light regular routine cleaning could’ve prevented this. You could only sit on the edge in the hot tub so that you weren’t sitting in some sort of dirt or sand or something…
I did have an annoying experience when my husband and I needed towels, we asked for some extras and it took probably about an hour and a half to have anything dropped off. I ended up going to grab pool towels from the separate building after 40 minutes just so we could shower.
Overall there are decent prices but it needs quite a bit of maintenance. From the cracks in some windows, the outdoor dirtiness… everywhere… and extra staffing wherever possible, I would rather pay an extra $200+ at a regular hotel or Airbnb.
On the bright side, downtown is so fun and there’s a lot of good food options plus it’s not too crowded but I don’t recommend staying here…
Horrible experience. The chalet was filthy, seemed like it had not been cleaned in months. The pool and “guest services” area was closed early without notice to guests. The restaurant was not even open, unfriendly staff. Charged us double for the room. Will never return, suggest looking elsewhere if you are considering a stay here.
Overall, I had a decent time at this resort but some things made it feel less like a resort and more just like a simpler and cheaper place to stay.
NOTE: There is NO WiFi at the cabins, only at the main lodge(you have to be inside the main lodge–to access the wifi– which closes at 8pm). To get from the lodge to the cabin we stayed at, the road was not well paved—it was bumpy and mostly rocks and unpaved terrain.
We stayed at one of the cabins that is a five-minute walk or two-minute drive from the main lodge. The resort is a short drive from the small town and state park with hiking and mountain biking which is amazing
Our cabin had a fire pit area, picnic table, porch with chairs, two bedrooms (one with two beds), two full bathrooms, a kitchen table, microwave, coffee machine, heater and AC, and a TV area with couches and chairs. Sadly they only provided us with 3 paper plates and cups, and plastic silverware, there was no room service who came to replenish our eating materials(as we thought there would be) so after one night, we had nothing to eat out of or with. Additionally there is no way to cook/make food, only a microwave to reheat with. The satellite TV service is spotty, and you can’t sign into subscriptions.
The people working at the front desk of the lodge were always very resourceful and kind.
Unfortunately, the main lodge’s pool and fitness center are only open for limited hours from 10am to 6pm. That was very frustrating because those were the hours of the day I was out mountain biking and hiking.
The pool is decently heated and was neither too cold nor too hot. The jacuzzi wasn’t hot at all—it’s actually colder than the pool. There is a sauna there, but it wasn’t open when we went.
Right next to the lodge, there are extremely nice pickleball and tennis courts with provided equipment. Sadly, swimming in the lake wasn’t allowed during our stay.
The lodge property is decently large with a lot of greenery and hiking trails. I bet it would be very beautiful during the fall with fall foliage.
While our cabin had a small kitchen, my brother's cabin did not have anything but a mini fridge. The bedrooms were large, and the main living room was adequately sized if you don't have a huge group of people. There is no wifi except at the main/pool building. The pool was nice, the old hot tub was closed and only a small recirculating tub was available, the old sauna was blocked off and the new one was not set up yet. They had two pickleball courts and a tennis court though we had to fix the nets to get them to not sag.
the indoor pool was disgusting, they obviously don’t clean at all. which considering it’s the last building standing it should be well maintained. and the man at the front desk was rude and inconsiderate while we were having a child’s party there
Gorgeous spot that looks to still be growing. Absolutely want to come back to hike, kayak, and swim since we were exploring nearby and weren't able to do much at the resort this trip. Some of the roads need to be replaced, so if you have a sedan or low vehicle be aware of that Hopefully their restaurant will be finished when we're back next, in the meantime they give you a nice print out of local options.
The A-frame cabins themselves are really nice. It would be nice for all of them to have fire pits but understand that'd be difficult to do and the website does let you know single cabins do not have them.
Inside stocking some more toiletries and an extra blanket would be a good idea. The roll of toilet paper was less than half full and there was not any stocked anywhere inside so we had to go to the front office for it & an extra blanket on the loft or in the dresser would have been a little better for this cold sleeper.
The lady with the long white hair didn’t catch her name is very rude and needs to learn to deal with people she’s very unkind and doesn’t handle business well would not recommend staying here😟
Stayed in a one bedroom cabin. Nice peaceful setting and clean.
Stayed in a two bedroom cabin. The loft bedroom has a king size bed and its own bathroom with a whirlpool tub. The first floor bedroom has two queen size beds and its own bathroom with a whirlpool tub. Cabins are nicely spaced apart, not too close to each other. There was a picnic table with a grill and a fire pit. Cabin was also equipped with a coffee pot, a mini refrigerator, and a microwave. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Will definitely return!
Lovely suite! Very spacious!
So sad about the fire, but there is another restaurant.
Would recommend!

Burnt to the ground
Cabins felt damp. Fans in bathrooms don’t work well. I would not stay in cabins again

Unfortunately....this is the Coolfont Resort now.
Terrible fire.
A real treasure. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and cozy. We really enjoyed our time at this treasure. The grounds are well kept and plenty of free parking. You won't be disappointed.
