“Since moving from San Diego California to Charles Town in early 2000s I always missed the abundant access to local fresh Mexican food; near impossible to find the same un-Americanized style in the Jefferson County area. When I stumbled across Ortega’s and then finding out the Ortega family was from my old stomping grounds, I felt like I struck gold. Being a local boutique pepper grower I was able to share peppers with Ortega’s from Jalapeños to Chocolate Habaneros. I’m a burrito lover and will ask to change up the carne asada burrito by removing most of the rice and beans and adding more carne to closer match the Taco/Burrito shops in San Diego of straight carne. The also make one of my fav if you lucky enough to find packaged in the counter fridge “escabeche” Mexican Pickled Jalapeño and Carrots (Jalapeño y zanahorias en escabeche). Ortega’s to truly a gem of Charles Town so please stop in and give them a try, I wish the Ortega’s team many more years of success!

“one of our favorite places, tastes just like fresh homemade Mexican food and let me tell you there is not many places in this area that serve actual authentic food, other places claim to be authentic Mexican but are in fact tex-mex (big difference) but this is the real deal 10/10 recommend!!!!!! todo muy delicioso la verdad!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️“

“Visited Cinco de Mayo Bar and Restaurant for dinner and enjoyed a few highlights worth sharing. We started with drinks—a red sangria and a jalapeño margarita. Both were visually appealing and hit the mark on flavor. The sangria was fruity and refreshing, while the margarita had just the right kick without overpowering the drink.
For food, we ordered 12 chicken wings with fries and 4 birria tacos. The wings were hot, crispy, and well-coated in sauce, and the fries were cooked just right. The birria tacos were flavorful, served with consommé on the side, and loaded with tender meat, onion, and cilantro.
Service stood out—Kelly was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. Her energy added to the experience.
There are a couple of areas for improvement. The music was playing too low, which took away from the energy of the space. A bit more volume would help bring out the vibe the place is clearly going for. Also, the air vents looked overdue for a good cleaning, which was hard to miss when looking around.
That said, I see a lot of potential here and plan to come back earlier in the evening to get a feel for the place when it’s more active. I get that toward closing time, things start winding down. Looking forward to seeing how it feels at full swing.“

“We needed something fast for lunch, so we shared the Luxe Box, which was enough for two of us to share to tide us over until dinner and was around $11-12 with an extra medium drink, so we have our gift card to eat one more lunch at Taco Bell for a quick lunch! Clean, fast, courteous at Charlestown, WV location, and were getting ready to put Christmas decorations out. Therefore, 5 stars for a fast food joint.“
