“The McMenamins properties are a great way to taste the unique nature of Portland. The Kennedy School is a rehabilitated and enhanced elementary school that now houses restaurants, bars, a theater, a soaking pool (and much more) all under one roof. It’s a cute and historic neighborhood gathering spot for friends and family. We rented the Agnes Library for a company offsite retreat which was perfect for our ten people. We stayed the night and enjoyed cozy rooms, good food, and great service from Max at the bar.“

“I've stopped by many times over the years to leave concert posters and postcards, but last night was the first time I had a meal there. The pork shoulder and fried brussels sprouts in hoisin sauce over noodles, side salad with blue cheese dressing, and a pint of doppelbock. It was absolutely delicious, a perfect end to a long day running around all over. Comfortable seating, friendly folks, books all around you, low key live music. Aesthetics were really curated you can tell with the quality of craftsmanship for the bar, tables, chairs and a beautiful wall library with couch like seats! “definitely in the upper echelon of breweries in Portland. I have it just above Deschutes and in the company of 10 Barrel Brewing and Breakside. Normally im not a lager guy either but their Helles Lagerbier was really great and lives up to its GABF Medal. They make a great summer shandy out of it too. Also, there IPAs here are really great and live up to the West Coast IPA scene. the Spellbound IPA was really good and their original ipa and Earth's Eris were pretty good too“

I highly recommend the Köstritzer Schwarzlager (Black Lager) on tap. It’s like liquid bread. Well balanced dark beer, but without the heaviness of a stout. “This place is so cool!! There is a bar and restaurant with a movie theater inside. You order your food and drinks and they give you a number to take into the theater with you. They bring your food right to you as you're watching the movie. The decor is super unique and so cool to look at all the different things they have in there. In the movie theater, there is a dome up above that is super cool as well. The theater chairs are nice and big and give you lots of room. They have tables connected to the chairs in front of you for your food. We love this place and will definitely be coming back and recommending to others.Parking: They have a parking lot and parking on the streets around it.Kid-friendliness: It is definitely kid friendly.They even have a kids menu for food.“

“So I’ve eaten here a few times and it’s always been awesome. Beer is very good! Monday and Friday are the best days to go for sure. Celebrated two birthdays here as well. Didn't expect to feel so welcome at a bar where the walls have elk heads mounted along with old shotguns above the urinal. Never judge a book by it's cover. Try the chowder on Fridays and the collards on any day!“

“Another cozy and unique theater!This building is artwork. Everywhere you look there's something that catches the eye.There's a restaurant attached to it as well so you can get food delivered to you while you watch the movie if you didn't grab any before hand. If you do this option you'll have to sit up stairs. It's fun though especially if you get the seats right at the edge. P.S. there is a restroom on this floor, if you are looking at the screen its on the right hand side.I love their popcorn, pretzels w/ cheese sauce and a pitcher of cider. They usually have three options to choose from.Every time I go, people are pleasant and it's a joy to talk to them.Side note: If you haven't been to McMenamins locations before all the ones I've been to are so much fun. “Alberta Pub in the King area of Portland is a cornered watering hole hangout hosting a raucous of a party until the wee hours of the morning. My daughter wanted to kickstart our Sunday as she'd gotten wind of Alberta P's Soulful Sundays lineup a while back and suggested we come during my short solo visit to Portland. Alberta P. has a dim, cozy feel with the bar area+stools and other tables around. My kid and I were here for the live music the next room over. This room has high stools, slender counters on opposite side and several hi-top tables front of the stage- with cymbals, decorating the walls. Grab a cocktail and settle in. The owner seems to be a legend in these parts who has been hosting and supporting the local live jazzy+Soulful Sundays music scene for a while. Come here if you wanna listen and jive to musicians zhuzh up famous jazzy and soul tunes. The Sunday my kid and I visited, the live band improvised their own schtick- but it also felt sloppy as the main singers ate up a bulk of the time stretching out the songs. At times, it felt and looked like they were cackling. Despite this, the singers had a powerful voice-especially the guy. My daughter and I ended our evening on a high note in a dimly lit venue while a live band tinkled out sets of jazzy+ soulful tunes until late. Come with an open mind and you'll leave with your senses bedazzled in some fun- but interesting way.“

But the prime rib dip so far out shadows the mediocrity of the sides that it deserves a 5/5. The huckleberry lemon drop was also exceptional and the vodka tonic fully met my expectations.
