“Not my first catfish. I got the whole fried catfish with onion rings and mac and cheese. At other places the sides are ok representations of what they're supposed to be, but that's not the case at Merl's. The mac and cheese and onion rings were great! The hush puppies were fantastic! But the star was the catfish. It was out of this world. You'll be hard pressed to find better.”

The selection of dishes is small, but it includes everything necessary, though for some reason, there was very little fish.
The staff works well.

I visited shortly after 5pm on Monday and requested a recommendation for wings, to which I was directed towards an employee’s favorite: BBQ w/ lemon pepper seasoning. I was not disappointed.

The food was ready in less than 5 minutes and a perfectly hot temperature. While the wings weren’t the biggest I’ve seen, they were full of flavor. The fries were unsalted, allowing me the freedom to season them to my liking.

Ain’t too many places where you can get a meal under $10 and get full from it. This place knows wassup.”
