“I just ate here for the first time after a couple stays at the Motto. Ordered an appetizer, intending to order more, and lost my appetite due to losing one of my closest loved ones the day before. I mentioned I needed to get back to my room because of grief - just wanted Seth, my server, to know it wasn’t the food or experience that drove me away (it was delicious and beautiful).

But - he came back with a check for 1 cent. He comped my meal and left me with a tiramisu to take back to my room. I am just in shock. I haven’t been met with such surprise kindness from a stranger since…. I’m not sure. Maybe ever.

Seth’s warm demeanor already put me at ease when I entered. My brain just wasn’t working, and I didn’t feel judged. But this was such a surprise in response to an offhand comment.

Let this be a reminder that there are still kind, empathetic strangers out there. Although regardless of faith in humanity, this was above and beyond.

After letting out some of the tears, I had to come write right away. I will never forget this gesture from a stranger (and management who I’m sure made it possible!). Thank you so much ♥️“
