Gertrude's Reviews
Chef Tarbell was so sweet, meeting several of the customers, helping out the staff. On top of that the food / wine was outstanding! Highly recommend Gertrude's and the Chef's new menu, definitely will be back
In May, my husband and I took a thrilling trip to Phoenix, Arizona, to see the Rolling Stones! It was our first road trip as newlyweds, and we were excited.
As a gardening maven in Phoenix, I suggested visiting the Cacti Botanical Garden. Gertrude's offered a nice meal in a comfortable ambiance with great service. Conveniently located within the Desert Botanical Garden, it had a lovely outdoor patio. The food was particularly good with a great vegetarian selection, and many dishes, including the salmon and short ribs, received high praise. The avocado fries were a tasty starter that guests often enjoyed again. Portion sizes were quite large, so sharing might be a good idea. Visitors appreciated the relaxing atmosphere, delicious food made from fresh ingredients, and well-made cocktails. Although service could be slow at times due to a busy staff, the staff was friendly and tried their best to accommodate guests. Many considered it the best food of their trip, with simple dishes like cold soup of the day, fritters, and shaved root salad. The quality of the food was fine dining level. The restaurant was open for many years before closing after 13 years of operation. Despite being close to the desert gardens, staff clarified that Gertrude's was a separate venue, which was a lovely surprise. The outdoor patio, especially on warm evenings, created a beautiful setting, and many guests appreciated the gluten-free options available on the menu. There was hope that Gertrude’s would bring back weekend brunches in the future.
