Just had a premium Tendon at Kaneko Hannosuke.
The anago and tempura were great and not over-fried. The sauce had a great balance of flavors and was delicious.
The soft egg was perfectly runny, so the yolk mixed beautifully with the sauce and rice.
The staff were also very friendly and welcoming.
It took about 15 minutes to get the food, which proves they fry the tempura to order.
Not as bad as the comments.
I don’t normally go out of my way to leave reviews, the food was overall decent I’d eat here again. However, I was incredibly frustrated with the cashier who was so obsessed with whatever was on her phone it took her 5 mins to notice me standing there, and then after she asked me my order I stood there waiting for her to let me pay as she kept swiping on her phone. Everyone else seemed to be doing their part but this cashier left a bad example.
the staff is super sweet!

Kaneko Hannosuke 金子半之助 is a Japanese restaurant located in The Amazing Brentwood food court in Burnaby. Known for its Edomae-style tempura tendon, the restaurant offers a taste of Japan with generous portions of crispy tempura served over fluffy rice and drizzled with a special sweet-savory sauce. Key menu items include the Premium Tendon, featuring conger eel, shrimp, kakiage, a soft-boiled egg, and vegetables, as well as the Ebi Tendon and other new options like Chicken & Vegetable and Beef & Vegetable Tendon bowls.
While the restaurant is praised for its excellent tempura and presentation, some customers note that it is on the pricier side for a food court stall. The Inaniwa udon set is also a popular choice, though some have found the broth too sweet. Overall, diners appreciate the authentic Japanese comfort food experience and the hardworking chefs, though opinions vary on whether the portion sizes justify the cost. Kaneko Hannosuke remains a go-to spot for many families craving flavorful Japanese dishes in the area.
