L&L Hawaiian Barbecue Opens New Location in Annandale, VA, Pushing Its East Coast Growth

L&L Hawaiian Barbecue is growing fast on the East Coast in 2024. The plate lunch chain just opened a new spot in Annandale, Virginia. This makes nine stores on the East Coast and 230 total in the U.S. and Japan.

The 5,000-square-foot Annandale restaurant opened on April 12 at 4363 John Marr Drive. L&L entered several new markets in 2023 and continues its push into new territory in 2024. The chain plans to open another restaurant in North Carolina later this year.

"The feedback from our patrons has been positive, confirming our belief in a demand for Hawaiian cuisine across the East Coast," said Josie Akana, Vice President of Franchising at L&L Hawaiian Barbecue. "We're excited to expand our reach and provide more entrepreneurs with the opportunity to achieve their American dream by opening their own business through our franchise network."

Mike Wu, the owner of this new place, is a fourth-generation restaurateur from Annandale. Wu says, "It's been heartwarming to meet guests who share their stories of Hawaii and express their excitement about having a taste of the islands right here in Virginia."

L&L started small in Honolulu in 1952 and glowed up after rebranding to L&L Hawaiian Barbecue in 1999. Co-founders Eddie Flores, Jr. and Johnson Kam have transformed L&L into a popular lunch restaurant, known for generous portions at affordable prices. The “Plate Lunch” just hits different compared to other chains. The stand-out menu offering features Hawaiian favorites like BBQ Mix, Chicken Katsu, and Kalua Pork with Cabbage
