I often came here for lunch from 1985-1992 when I worked in Berkeley and Emeryville. Unbelievably, despite the gentrification all around it, Bette's hasn't changed: just the right amount of kitsch coupled with good diner food at reasonable prices. Bette's is definitely a staple of Berkeley! It's service is always amazing, the staff are courteous, quick, warm, and friendly, and their food is always amazing!! My favorite thing is the California breakfast. I haven't tried that many things considering I've been here 29338 times because the California breakfast is SO GOOD. This has to be my #1 spot for brunch. The food is absolutely amazing. The wait can be very long however it's worth it. Corned beef hash, country style potatoes, and soufflé ( pear & cranberry ) are my favorite dishes so far. Their corned beef is phenomenal and highly recommend. Service was ok but could be because they are constantly busy. Definitely will be back soon.
