“I first visited this amazing local deli in 1989-1990. I remembered the half loaves of bread stacked high with a pile of my choice of meats and cheeses. Although I was only 18-19, Compagno’s established my standard for an amazing sandwich. 32 years later I brought my sons here for lunch. Same delicious goodness a generation later.“

You you also have a choice of delicious breads, and you can customize your sandwich if you wish! The staff is always courteous, and quick. “Unfortunately, there are not that many Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern Markets in Monterey atea. I come from Southern California where there are ample Mediterranean supermarket but at least this place offers some Mediterranean goodies not found in regular supermarkets. The owners are very nice.“

“This is a cool little restaurant. The outside patio area is very eclectic and has a lot of personal touches. The iced dirty chai was just sweet enough and really good. The mocha was heavy on the chocolate and delicious.
We got the egg, ham and spinach bagel sandwich. The spinach and ham were cooked fresh in the eggs and not just placed on top. There are many other bagel sandwich options as well as breakfast burritos and traditional breakfast.“

“The chili from 5th Avenue Deli will change your life. It is miraculous. I do not generally seek out chili…However, this warm, rich and flavorful chili has not only reversed my chili seeking behavior, it has made a 5th Ave. Deli chili devotee out of this native and local. I recommend the chili for life!
May I also suggest the Reuben and the Harris Ranch Tri-Tip!“
