“Stopped by for our Sunday morning carb fix last week! Get ready to stand in line if you’re coming on the weekend, but trust me it’s worth it.
Located in Temescal in Oakland, Poppy Bagels offers hand-rolled bagels in classic flavors. Most of their sandwiches are served open-face and have a generous amount of toppings on them.
Super grateful that they had a big rack with all of their bagels on display, because I’m definitely more of a visual chooser when it comes to bagels.
We got the Freshie Garlic Bagel ($4 - warm bagel, butter, and salt), Whitefish Garlic Bagel ($16 - scallion cream cheese, white fish salad, red onion, chives, and dill), and also Truffle Honey Everything Bagel ($9.50 - black truffle cream cheese and local honey).
Everything together took about ~10-15 minutes to be ready. While we waited, we grabbed a table in their lovely patio area. There’s also a restroom on the way there. There are a few tables inside and some barstool seats as well. They definitely fill up quick & once you see their playful color scheme, you’ll totally understand why.
The bagels are quite dense, which I enjoy. For those who like a fluffier bagel, this might not be your favorite, but I promise you will appreciate the craft and their unique flavor combinations.
The Whitefish was very bright and reminded me of cold-smoked mackerel, but I’m not quite sure what fish they used. The dill and chives helped to cut the brininess and it all came together with the creamy scallion cream cheese. Definitely my favorite bite of the day.
The Truffle Honey had a generous serving of shmear. It was at least ½ inch thick on each bagel half! Also, beware of the honey, your fingers will be a mess after, but it’s all part of the experience.
The staff was very patient and explanatory with their menu. They are also very on top of marking things as sold out if needed. We were def a bit bummed when the egg salad was marked as sold out, but it just means that we’ll be back for more!“

“Great bagels, friendly, line moves quickly. They're not kidding when they say they sell out within a couple hours of opening. I arrived around an hour after opening and the everything bagels were sold out. I will absolutely return, and I have to wake up earlier next time!“

“Tasty bagels—good texture and you can tell they were freshly baked. Their breakfast bagel sandwiches are the perfect way to start a weekend morning. One of the best bagels I’ve had in the Bay Area. The service is great as well and they are always so friendly. Highly recommend!“

“I like this bagel shop quite a bit actually. They are always busy, but there isn't to long of a wait ever. They do run out of pastries and some flavors of bagels so make sure you go early! The only shitty thing about this place is that it's kinda hard to get to if you're driving. Shoot it was kinda confusing to get to on foot too honestly. There is parking but it's an underground parking garage that u have to pay for. The entrance to parking garage is not on 14th st but on whatever side st is behind the bagel shop. If u do park down there, u can take the elevator to the top ground. Walk to the left and around the corner, you will see a bunch of tall buildings when u get out of the elevator. When u walk towards the left you will see an ATM, cross the courtyard thing and BAM lol the bagel shop is right there. Can't miss it 😉. If you are walking there from Broadway, it's behind Walgreens and Citi bank by the art sculpture thing surrounded by hella tall buildings. Good luck lol. I love the strawberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese or the I think it's called the sugar bagel or cinnamon sugar bagel with cream cheese 👌bomb.com! Oh yeah.... Their coffee is horrible, tastes like hot water 🫤“
“Solid! I got an egg, cheddar, and sausage sandwich on a sesame bagel for $10.95 and took it across the street to eat in the cute Noe Valley plaza. The workers were friendly and the service was very fast. Great spot for a hearty midday snack.“

“Debuted at the end of the pandemic in response to an ethnic slur Dago Bagel from Tony Gemignani is one of three concepts inhabiting 728 Vallejo Street, and from Thursday through Sunday beginning at 08:00am guests are welcome to enjoy everything from true New York Style Bagels to housemade loaves and traditional Italian Pastries made with skill and love.
A change of pace for the lauded Pizza maker, a man whose name is nearly-synonymous with North Beach, it is inside the shop that acts as both Bakery and storefront that guests will meet well trained staff and pleasant servers more than willing to discuss products and production at length.
Beginning with Bagels, developed in conjunction with Adam Sachs, Dago’s collection spans from Pride to Everything and from stretchy skin to a dense interior with good chew the “best” is a matter of personal opinion whether toasted with Cream Cheese or plain.
Liberally using Malt and a Cuppone Panettone deck oven imported from Italy, plus stone-ground Flour made on-site, visitors attention is next drawn to Toscano Brothers including “Gold Standard” Baguettes and Organic Sourdough Ace Pagnotta incorporating Spelt, Rosemary and Olives into a 40 year old Sourdough starter.
Trending sweet from here, a Sour Cherry and Chocolate Batard souring local produce and TCHO Chocolate, Tony’s “Piattina” cuts a wide swath of textures and flavors before Antonio’s Italians Pastries rounds things out with classic Rainbow Cookies and world-class Lemon Ricotta Cake plus silky Budino hidden alongside Prosciutto and Mortadella in the cold case.“

“They had fresh bagels and a customer service attitude in comparison to Bagley Street Cafe on Telegraph in Berkeley down the street from campus. I live on Telegraph and I will go to Lox Stock & Bagel which is several blocks farther away for a fresh bagel and a smile.“

“This is the cutest little breakfast spot in this part of SF! On one hand, I hope they blow up online and get the same love as other bakeries have, but on the other hand, I want the lines to stay short!
We got the pain au chocolate, which was so delicious! The chocolate filling was great and they had a copious amount in the pastry. It was also soft and warm, probably one of the best pain au chocolates I have ever had. We also got the iced chai latte, which was flavorful and nice! Finally, we got the jalapeño cheese bagel with garlic herb cream cheese. The cream cheese was scrumptious, but the bagel felt a little stale.
Service was fast for the place’s size, and it smelled delicious inside when we walked in. There is a little seating area but it’s probably better to take your food to go.“

“A bit slow and pricey. I wish they cooked the eggs differently for the bagel sandwiches. I am not sure if they are using powdered eggs, but the way they prepare them in thin folded sheets makes them dry and unpleasant. Bacon was also shredded and dry. The sausage was great though, and the quality of the bagels are good.“

“Easily the best (and most disgusting) bagel shop on polk street! years ago I came in for a breakfast bagel, the lady was mopping the floor. She stopped what she was doing, took my order and cash, got change, and proceeded to make the bagel. Halfway through she cut her finger opening a pack of cheese with a knife, looked at the wound, and proceeded to make my bagel. I ate it anyway. It was delicious! Thank you! I'll be back.“
“Loveliest cafe with wonderful espresso drinks and best bagel dishes in town. My favorites are the cardamom Rose latte and the brusco bagel (thin mortadella slices with honey drizzle and pepperoncini). Dominick and Andie are lovely. Dog friendly outdoor seating but limited and in the shade, so might be a little cold so bring light jacket“
“Temo's Cafe - the place, the people, where you find good coffee, a smile, understandig and, if needed, helping hand. Lamea is an angel...was our angel... long time ago. We never will forget you, Lamea, and your open heart... And your nice, lovely family ... A kiss and a hug from Petra and Anna“

“L’s is a wonderful place if you have a gluten allergy / celiac disease!! They are extremely caring and careful (make sure to tell them you have an allergy) and they went above and beyond to ensure my gluten free bagel was prepared safely (changed their gloves, used all clean surfaces etc.). They are clearly very knowledgable and prepared to meet dietary needs. And the gluten free bagel tasted delicious!!! Which is so rare. Can’t recommend enough. I’ll definitely be back!!“

“Best bagels and cream cheese in the city! I've been to their Fillmore Street location several times, but this is my first time at this specific location. The employees were fun and friendly. There isn't a spot to eat inside, but there are many tables to eat at outside.“

“Very good bagels, run by a very nice family. The atmosphere is clean, but not somewhere that's very inviting to eat. Since the pandemic, I haven't seen literally anybody eating here. People just get their stuff to go. That said, they make proper boiled bagels fresh every day. They're chewy and crisp when toasted, which is exactly how a bagel should
be. I'm a lox guy, and they've only ever served me good, fresh lox. This is an important detail. Tons of bagel places serve fishy lox that you can tell hasn't been properly refrigerated or stored. This is never the case at house of bagels. To be honest, I've kind of had an addiction to this place. I go on jags where I get a bagel there 4 times a week....one last thing: try the pastrami bagel. It's delicious.
Kid-friendliness: I've been taking my kid there since he was 9 years old. They love him and treat him so nicely that it makes me love them. It's his favorite breakfast.“

“OMG I love the energy I get when I go to this Noah's in comparison to others in the bay area. And I've been to them all. Walnut creek,Pinole, Fremont, Marin, etc. The ladies that are there in the early am are always nice smiling and ready to serve. I don't know what it is but they no matter how long it's been since I've been there last they still remember me. That makes my bagel taste so much better 😋. It's two brown 🤎 skin sista's and they bring the business culture.“

“The best bagel we’ve ever had.

“What Primavera does really well that lots of other sandwich shops overlook is their bread - it's fantastic here. The portions are generous and good selection, including delicious veggie options.
This isn't a fancy sandwich shop, it's a real-deal simple, satisfying meal at a fair price. Evidenced by the droves of students that frequent it. Support family owned businesses!“

“The food and service were great. Fast, kind, and delicious. The interior space is definitely not a 5 atar dining experience. But for a place to sit and eat breakfast, it was fine. The selection was good, and the pastries were clearly made fresh. They did a great job making the food and drinks we ordered. Would definitely go back again.
Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly breakfast options. Donuts, bagels, cinnamon rolls, etc.“

“This place was such a surprise. It is very unassuming from the street, and the atmosphere is super casual diner. But the food was excellent and a good value. If you’re hungry you will be pleased with the generous portions—I’m a hungry big guy and I took some of the house combo to go because I couldn’t finish it. The quality is really solid.“

“Stumbled on this place when working across the street servicing a customer's equipment and needed to grab lunch nearby. Had the best turkey and swiss deli sandwich of my life, not kidding. Now, every time I drive by the place I salivate. Had the chance to stop by there again today, one year later, and the turkey and swiss sandwich was even better! Fresh high quality bread, turkey, swiss cheese, tomato, red onion, lettuce, and some kind of special sauce. Incredibly delicious and a very rare find!“
