“To celebrate our 27th anniversary, we went to @oldskoolcafe. The greeters, cooks and servers are all young people. Mama T opened this place to help at risk youth learn work and life skills (like how to get a license, do taxes, set a bank account). Partnering with experienced chefs, this restaurant has excellent food… and live jazz!!! We ordered the Taumoepeau Ota (think ceviche) and it was a great appetizer… light and the fish was super fresh. We had the short ribs which were super tender and had a rich gravy. We didn’t think we had room for dessert, but the lavender cheesecake and the Guittard chocolate brownie were fabulous! If you are in the city: GO! SUPPORT! ENJOY DELICIOUS FOOD!“

“I regularly go to their pop up booth at the Saturday farmers market behind SF Ferry Building. They are in the back plaza area near Gate C Golden Gate Ferry Terminal. Delicious, hearty breakfast sandwich with runny egg yolk if you desire that. Great customer service too.“

“I walked in with high hopes and with my group of friends. I walked out thinking the food was pretty good and the service was not great. Our server was gruff, condescending, and very inflexible when it came to splitting checks. The food was tasty and not as special as I was expecting. I'm not sure if I'll be going back.“

“Outstanding customer service. Black Owned and Operated...“
“Perfect spot for some comfort food! The owner is amazing - kind and friendly, and so welcoming. I got the fish sandwich and I know I'll be dreaming of it and craving it incessantly. Prices are fair; for me, I ended up having 2 meals out of it. Beautifully decorated, the food is cooked to order. If you're debating it, just go for it - you're bound to find something you'll love!
Parking: A few street parking spots, but a Safeway parking lot adjacent to the restaurant.“

“So don't let the appearance deter you away from the opportunity to taste the food. There's not really inside seating it's more of a take and go. Is a couple of tables if they're available you can use them.
But, if you love fried fish this is the place for you. It's reasonably priced and the food is good. My favorite dessert was that lemon flavored pound cake.
I will say that I got the yams and they were okay, but would have been better if they'd have been a little bit sweeter and had more nutmeg.
I definitely would return
Parking: It's a tight parking spot so if you can't drive I don't recommend“

“Great food and music. Xxx.“
“This is a simple old school greasy spoon worth checking out if you're looking for a decent basic breakfast spot. The decor is dated & the service is hit or miss, but the food is pretty good! They have all of the classics like pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, omelets, sausage, hash browns & toast. They also have burgers & sandwiches for lunch. These type of neighborhood mom & pop restaurants are becoming harder to find, so I recommend supporting a small business & give them a try if you're in the area.“
“Shout out to Kenny and his crew! Community focused, amazing food, and creates such a fun atmosphere! Thank you for supporting the Claremont Middle School Awards celebration!“
“We ordered takeout from Grand Lake and were very happy with the quality and creativity of the dishes. The matzah ball soup is an unusual offering and lives up to the old-fashioned recipe — including a basketball-size matzah ball!! The Cali salad is an excellent choice with a nice combination of ingredients, including a choice of egg salad, chicken salad or hummus included in the price. The chickpea stew was a winner — it had a delicious curry sauce and fresh crips veggies as well as chickpeas, served with warm pita. Really good stuff at this place!“
“Rome is one of the hardest working people from San Francisco you have to tap in if your looking for a home away from home cooked meal from a juicy briskets that pull apart with ease to the cheesiest Mac and cheese you have ever tasted he also has other things but from what I experienced with the brisket it's the real deal - Trunkboy Flo Verified“

“I just ran across this restaurant location, and it reminded me of a great young-lady, and her mom that use to own, and cook the most amazing fried fish, and sides. I see the small children and they would be about the age pictured but was small babies when I first started eating there. I am going to stop by there today, and my hope is that they are back, and not sure of how and when they may have returned, but I am going to be that regular customer as before. Please let it be them they cooking was amazingly great, and the service was top tier...I cannot wait...“

“I can't remember the last time I had fried chicken that was this good. They make it to order so it takes a little longer. But it comes out hot and crunchy. The chicken itself is juicy, they must brine it or something. I also think their story is pretty great.“

“Walking in, you may wonder if you'd walked into a bar, but stick around.
We showed up super late, but they still sat us. Food takes about 30ish or so minutes, and like I said, we were late. As in last table served late.
I got the 6 pc fish with greens and Mac. Clean fish. Greens with no pork. The Mac was spot on for what I expected.
My wife had the gumbo, which had everything in it that it should. She got her rice on the side, her choice, by the way.
My son got the 3 pc chicken wing and Mac. He had me strip the wings and ate it all and all of the Mac. This is rare for him being as picky as he is.
We also got a side of yams and grits. I like my grits cooked to a certain consistency, and they nailed it, unlike the soup they serve at Burdells.
Also threw 1 Heineken on to the bill.
Before leaving, we ordered a peach cobbler and banana pudding to go.
Get them both. The cobbler hit every childhood memory on the way down. The pudding My son wanted to have to himself.
We also grabbed the strawberry crunch for my wife's mother's birthday. She loved it. Thank you to the waitress who set us up with this. You were amazing and thank you for having us in that late.
Total bill was between 120-130
We will be going back for breakfast to try the chicken and waffles the waitress told me about. Given how picky and I am how good their food was I'm actually looking forward to it after how much of a letdown so many other places had been.“
