Subway in Inglewood

“The attached photo is a receipt from this Subway for a sandwich I bought back in 2009, more than 17 years ago. It was the first meal I had in the country I now call home.

I found this receipt tonight in a box of old memories and searched to see if this location still exists, and it does.

In 2009, this country inaugurated its first Black president.
In 2009, a sandwich here cost $5.

Seventeen years have come and gone. The country has changed so much — some say for better, and many others would say for worse.

This small, ordinary receipt marks an extraordinary beginning for me.

“Great sandwiches made to personally please your stomach! I love that you get to choose what makes you happy. I have a very sensitive stomach and subway seems to agree with me like soup does. I try to include it in my diet now once a week. It works for me.“
