Shōwa Ramen Reviews
This ramen shop is popular among UCSD students. The food is just average, but it’s convenient and consistently decent. The interior blends Japanese style with modern minimalism, and self-order kiosks make ordering a breeze.
Their fried chicken is said to be tasty, but you’d better skip the ramen. Overall, it’s a handy pick for students nearby. It’s worth a try if you’re on campus, but not worth a special trip from far away. I’d highly...read full review
Not bad for the price. Might be my issue but I didn't find restroom.
Really a great place to go to if you want a good bowl of ramen or a karaage, especially with it being in the centre of campus and all that. Shōwa Ramen, located on the UC San Diego campus, offers a limited but satisfying menu. The cozy interior and kiosk ordering system make for a convenient and quick dining experience. The ramen, including the special Karage, are solid options for students and visitors looking for a decent meal.
The tonkotsu ramen is a popular choice, with a savory broth and perfectly chewy noodles. The seasoned eggs, known as ajitamago, are a highlight, with a rich and flavorful taste. The Karaage Rice Bowl is also praised for its juicy and perfectly cooked chicken, as well as its balanced flavors.
While some customers have noted that the broth can be overly salty, a second visit showed improvements, with a richer and more balanced flavor. The chashu pork slices have also received mixed reviews, but overall, Shōwa Ramen is considered a must-visit for ramen enthusiasts. The restaurant also offers other tasty treats, such as fried chicken, gyoza, and Showa Fries, which have been well-received by customers.
