“My boyfriend and I drove an hour and a half on Sunday just to try Nkwagala Cafe after seeing so many amazing reviews on Instagram, and WOW… it exceeded every expectation we had. From the moment we took our first bites, we knew this place was something special.
My boyfriend has been struggling to find vegetarian food that he genuinely enjoys because of his health issues, and this is honestly the first place we’ve found that serves vegetarian dishes packed with so much flavor while still feeling energizing and nourishing.
We ordered the Nigerian Soul Food Plate and absolutely fell in love with all the different flavors. The versatility of the quinoa rice was incredible, and the innovative twist on Jollof Rice was truly out of this world. Every bite tasted intentional and comforting.
We also tried the Egusi Soup, which was completely new to us, and we were so impressed with how well it paired with the quinoa rice. We even dipped our Akara into it and that combination was AMAZING.
Speaking of the Akara… after our first bite, my boyfriend and I literally looked at each other with the unspoken confirmation of, “We have to order more.” HAHA. It was THAT good. We placed another order and happily waited another 30 minutes because it was absolutely worth it. It was amazing how it was made with chickpeas and did not lack any flavor. It almost reminded us of hush puppies but so much more fluffier, flavorful, and HEALTHY!
One dish that really touched my boyfriend personally was the Katobo. The burro had the same consistency as potatoes, a comfort food he used to love but can no longer eat. Being able to experience something that brought back that same comfort and satisfaction meant so much to him. It genuinely brought back his excitement for food again.
I also know that some reviews mention concerns about the location, but people have to understand that they operate mainly as a pickup-only business. All you literally have to do is place your order, let them know you’re there, and they bring the food right outside to you. It’s honestly a very simple process and should absolutely not deter anyone from trying this food because it is 1000% worth it.
Compliments to the Chef because every single dish was made with so much care, creativity, and flavor. We loved our experience so much that we’re already planning to make this a weekly trip so we can stock up and meal prep for the week.
Thank you, Nkwagala Cafe, for creating food that not only tastes incredible but also makes people feel good physically and emotionally. We can’t wait to come back!
P.S. I would have pictures but we were so hungry, we literally ate everything right on the spot!“

“LATE REVIEW.
Came here for dinner the night before Valentine's and was able to be seated right away. The menu is divided into two: Moroccan and Tunisian. We wanted to try one of each but we were told by our server that we can only choose one. We found it as a bummer because of course my partner and I wanted to try different things. The food was good, just wished the portions and options were more.
Overall, it was still a pleasant experience. The entertainment from the belly dancers also made the night so fun and memorable.“

“Incredible food and service. Our waiters name was Christian; he was personable, kind, and hospitable. The food was mouthwatering and had such unique flavors. HUGE portions and definitely comfort food as they state. Will definitely be returning to check out the new menu each month.“

“Ate fufu with light soup & goat meat!
Update: And I have been going there each time I am in the area. Sometimes, I specifically drive or Uber for about an hour to go eat there. It is one of the few places (actually, the only one I know) that sells Ghanaian food. i wish they delivered to Orange/Orange County, it'd make my life so much easier.“

“The food is great and service is great too. the restaurant has a homey vibe and you can definitely go there and chill. Its always a good time when we go there for dinner and I will always go back. They have a traditional nigerian menu that tastes like your mom made it. Stop here when you want a good homecooked nigerian meal.“

“I have been wanting to try this place out for quite a while now. I stay downtown Los Angeles, so it’s a bit of a distance to drive. Since the closing of the Vuuka lounge downtown, there isn’t much of a choice when it comes to African cuisine. Yesterday, which was Sunday I finally had a chance to try it while on break at work. I placed my order online and picked it up from the restaurant myself. I ordered the jollof combo plate and peppered goat soup. Both were very delicious and well seasoned. I did not sit and eat inside the restaurant, so I can’t really tell you guys how the atmosphere is but what I can say is that it is definitely a place everyone should try“

“The invaluable non-profit I work for, The Love We Don't See, has used Veronica’s Kitchen to cater many events. From the restaurant to the food, you get an authentic Nigerian experience! If you want to travel without leaving Southern California, this is the place to go. Walk in, and you will understand what I mean; then taste the food, and you will truly believe you are enjoying the best of Nigerian cuisine. My son, who is part Nigerian, loves when I bring home leftovers from Veronica’s Kitchen after my work events. Happy son, happy mama! 😊“

“Had a wonderful meal at Ilé LA. The entire 4-course dinner was presented beautifully, was well-flavored, and vibrant. The food was nourishing and so was the history and storytelling behind it. The care and intention in the food and presentation really made for a special evening. Highly recommend if you’d like to experience elevated pan-African cuisine. The theme of our dinner was a taste of West Africa and included pepper soup, a honey bean hummus, and salad, jollof rice, lamb, catfish, chicken, and fonio, a non-alcoholic beverage, and puff puff with ice cream. Everything was excellent! Would absolutely eat at Chef David’s table again.“
