About Chef Fu 洞庭湖

Chef Fu 洞庭湖 is described as the most authentic Chinese restaurant in Los Angeles, offering a true taste of central China. The menu features dishes like Pídàn qiézǐ (皮蛋茄子), a preserved egg and eggplant combination that sounds funky but tastes amazing. Frozen dumplings are tasty, and the Henan-style braised noodles are authentic. The fish soup is warm, flavorful, and comforting, with tender fish slices, soft tofu, and the perfect balance of sourness and umami. Spicy beef noodle soup has a super great broth that is packed with flavor and not too salty. The cauliflower dish and Intestine tofu dish are spicy, so light or mild spicy eaters should ask for small spicy. Other highlights include fired green beans that are very flavorful and a Pumpkin Pie dessert that is like an air puff with thin flat mochi in the middle. Dishes are served hot in metal pans, with generous portions and bold, satisfying flavors. The owner is very nice, though the mood is not that good. Don’t expect egg rolls, rangoons, or fortune cookies—just authentic, quality flavor.

The food is delicious.

Looks like an old mom and pop Chinese restaurant. Definitely authentic, but the dishes can be a bit too oily and spicy.

I lived in China for 14 years and this is the most authentic Chinese restaurant I have eaten at in Los Angeles. There is a dish at the restaurant called Pídàn qiézǐ (皮蛋茄子). It's a preserved egg and eggplant combination. Sounds funky, tastes amazing. Don't expect eggs rolls, rangoons, & fortune cookies, but if you want a taste of central China without the air fare and hassle of getting a visa, go to Chef Fu's. 好吃!
