This was one of the most authentic places in Monterey. Great food and you were treated like family
I’m from out of state. A group of us travel several times a year and have tried many restaurants. We always try to go to restaurants we wouldn’t have at home. This was by far the best. The homemade French press hot tea, Bloody Mary, rice and beans, cabbage rolls, caeser salad and turkey lentil soup. I can’t say enough about the owner and food. Give them a try!
Husband and I shared 3 meats, 2 sides. Brisket, ribs, tritip, grilled veggies, and cole slaw, and cornbread muffin. Veggies were my fave part.. Only thing we will ask next time is for the bbq sauce very light, or on the side, they were WAY too drenched for our taste, I really would prefer to taste the meat, not the sauce. Otherwise nice people, great service.

It is a one-of-a-kind restaurant with the best food and kindest owners who work very hard to use local and fresh ingredients. The dishes are made with love, and the place has a charming atmosphere. Customers especially enjoy the Shrimp Étouffée over Cajun Rice, the Cup of Gumbo, and the Combination BBQ Dinner Plate. While the food is generally satisfying, some customers found the Cajun Andouille Pork Sausage sandwich and the ribs and brisket to be less than ideal in terms of flavor and tenderness. The prices are on the higher side, but the dining experience is still considered a treasure by many.
