“While visiting Balboa Island I stopped at Dad's Donut and Bakery for some breakfast. I was in the mood for a fresh soft donut with coffee. At first it wasn't apparent to me that the shop had donuts, since I looked up at the large exterior sign displaying their frozen banana, assuming that was their specialty. Regardless, I crossed the street, looked in the door and saw the large trays of donuts. Looking at the interior sign, I noticed they were in fact a bakery shop.

After perusing the various baked offerings, I picked up an apple fritter and a traditional chocolate donut. The apple fritter was fresh, with a firm outer shell and a soft fluffy inside with small chunks of delicious apple. The chocolate donut was soft, sweet and tasty with its chocolate top coating.

Dad's Donut shop is right near the entrance to the island and getting there early will land you with convenient parking to grab a bite to eat and enjoy some early shopping.“

“Was in the air I was looking for a donut spot. When I got to this spot in particular, I came in and I saw they were selling burritos. For under $10 you could get the best breakfast burrito you could find. This burrito is so good. The customer service was amazing. The lady and the man in the front were super cool and nice. 10 out of 10 would come back for another breakfast burrito. And if you’re wondering what it was, it was the sausage.“

“Decided to continue my donut tour through LA and spotted this donut joint near Little Saigon of the LA suburb Westminster. Little did I know when driving up, and mentioned in several other Yelp reviews, that Sun's is immediately next door to Hong Kong Express Chinese takeaway restaurant that went viral in early 2024. So if you're visiting Hong Kong Express and there is a long line, pop over to Sun's and get a donut while waiting.

Pros:
- Good variety of pastries including muffins, croissants, and donuts.
- I picked up a cinnamon roll with icing ($3.00) which I liked. Was soft and chewy!
- Small place, but there was no line when I visited on a Saturday evening.
- Plenty of parking as it's located in a shopping center.
- Good prices compared to other popular donut shops as their cake and raised donuts are $1.95 each.

Cons:
- If you're looking for a huge variety of specialty donuts like what you find at Randy's Donuts, you won't find that here. Just your standard fare is available.

“Today I went to Friend's Donuts at about 05:24 A.M. because this place is open 24/7. I like going here, though as far as I know coming here at about 5am in the morning is the guaranteed time to come here to freshly stocked up options. Great place to go to!

🛎️ Service: The service is very nice and can accommodate for Spanish and English. I think someone here might also speak Vietnamese as well but I can't confirm that entirely since I've only heard Spanish and English conversations so far from my past visits here. The staff here is friendly, especially if you're the only one there they may even chat up a nice conversation with you if you're a frequent customer here when it's not too busy.
