The noodles and soup dumplings are good
Overall very solid Shanghainese food. The Dongpo pork was a standout, but most everything was good. Service was not the best, but understandable as they were quite busy on a Friday night and we were a large table that arrived way late for our reservation. The food came out super fast though, which we very much appreciated.

Chef Zhao Kitchen is a reliable spot for delicious Chinese food, perfect for large groups and family events. Located in a little strip mall outside of downtown Palo Alto, the restaurant's interior is basic but the food is worth the trip. Their house special tofu is a must-try, with an addictive savory and sweet sauce that melts in your mouth. Other popular dishes include the black bean fish fillet, steam juicy pork bun, and Salted & Pepper Pork Spare Ribs. The restaurant offers generous portions, convenient takeout, and a convenient location near Stanford campus. The Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) are among the better options, and the pan-fried buns are tasty with a great wrapper. The scallion tossed noodles are a standout, featuring hand-made noodles with a perfect balance of flavor. Their desserts, including the osmanthus sesame mini rice ball soup and yam cake, are surprisingly delicious and a great way to end a meal. With fast service that is polite but straightforward, Chef Zhao Kitchen is an excellent choice for any occasion. However, some dishes like the salted duck and pot stickers may not meet expectations if stored for too long. Overall, Chef Zhao Kitchen is a real find with a wide variety of dishes that are reliable and enjoyable.
