I absolutely love French pastries like canelés and madeleines, and I always make it a point to try them wherever I go. BU Pastry Bar is definitely one of the best I've ever had!

Their pastries were absolutely delicious and so did the drink - mango 🥭 passionfruit.
this is my first time there and I didn't try any pastries but I felt compelled to leave a review bc I got the mango yuzu sparkler and 1. it was refreshing and not too sweet, which is rare in a drink for me and 2. the little mango bits at the bottom were soft enough to not get caught in the (normal sized) straw.

Bu Pastry Bar is a new spot in Pasadena on Lake in a cute alley, offering French pastries and drinks. The signature canelés are a highlight, with a crispy, caramelized outside and a soft, custardy inside. Unique flavors like Black Sesame and Uji Matcha are balanced and not overly sweet. Madeleines come in creative flavors, including chocolate, and are delicious. The strawberry cheese dacquoise and horchata dacquoise have fillings that aren't too sweet, though the texture is a bit ambiguous. Financiers, such as the regular and fig & cheese, are majestic. The mango yuzu sparkler is refreshing and not too sweet, with soft mango bits. The cookie butter iced latte, made with a Biscoff paste and cold foam, is amazing and not overly sweet. Pastries are baked in small batches with high-quality ingredients, and prices are fair at $3.5-$4.5. The staff is friendly and helpful. The place is quite niche, as appreciation for madeleines, financiers, canelés, or dacquoises is needed given the size, but the iced lattes alone make it worth a visit. Party assortments are beautiful and perfect for gatherings.
