I really liked their pastries—fresh and moderately sweet. The coffee was also good, although it felt a bit expensive considering the small size.
The osmanthus financier is heaven: chewy, crispy and perfectly not-too-sweet. The cloud drinks are absolutely delicious. The pastries in the pretty box make great gifts, too.
The pastry was really good beyond our expectations, we will definitely return again. We had caneles and they were crunch outside with moisture and softness inside, great texture is comparable to those high end pastry shops. The quality of pastry is truly a A+++ surprise for the neighborhood.
Wish they had some casual table seats by the shop for enjoying their pastries and vibe in future.

Bu Pastry Bar is a new spot in Pasadena on Lake in a cute alley, offering French pastries and drinks. The signature canelés are a highlight, with a crispy, caramelized outside and a soft, custardy inside. Unique flavors like Black Sesame and Uji Matcha are balanced and not overly sweet. Madeleines come in creative flavors, including chocolate, and are delicious. The strawberry cheese dacquoise and horchata dacquoise have fillings that aren't too sweet, though the texture is a bit ambiguous. Financiers, such as the regular and fig & cheese, are majestic. The mango yuzu sparkler is refreshing and not too sweet, with soft mango bits. The cookie butter iced latte, made with a Biscoff paste and cold foam, is amazing and not overly sweet. Pastries are baked in small batches with high-quality ingredients, and prices are fair at $3.5-$4.5. The staff is friendly and helpful. The place is quite niche, as appreciation for madeleines, financiers, canelés, or dacquoises is needed given the size, but the iced lattes alone make it worth a visit. Party assortments are beautiful and perfect for gatherings.
