Tamales El Mexicano Reviews
Delicious is all I can say! Very good quality tamales and in a variety of flavors! Will definitely be back.
We had the pork and chicken tamales wrapped in banana leaves and they were both really tasty. I thought the meat to masa ratio was just right. We also tried a sweet tamale for the first time—the strawberry raisin—and it was good! A beautiful red color and it tasted like a cake, with less sugar.
I love tamales and maybe I was just really hungry, but that was the best damn tamale I've ever had. Had a pineapple one for breakfast and didn't know they could be that good. It's just a little cart outside a gas station so set your expectations accordingly.

Tamales El Mexicano is a must-visit destination in San Diego. This family-owned stand located near a Chevron station offers a wide variety of delicious tamales. The masa is super moist, and the amount of meat is generous. The chicken tamales are filled with moist and flavorful chicken, while the pork tamales are tender and cooked in its sauce. The tamales are made in banana leaves, adding to their authenticity. The owners are friendly and the service is excellent. With a wide range of flavors to choose from, including chicken, pork, queso, and peppers con queso, there's something for everyone. The tamales are worth every penny, and the guy working the stall is super nice. Though not as cheap as before, they remain delicious—get the ones in the banana leaf if you can. Just bring your Tapatio, as salsa might be out. Every bite is a little surprise—beef, pork, or dessert, all are delicious!
