About Khao Tiew

Khao Tiew is a small restaurant that serves a variety of dishes, including duck curry, fried mushrooms, boat noodles, khao pad mun nuer, and khao soi. The food is generally good, with some dishes standing out more than others. The duck curry has a good flavor, although the sauce can be lukewarm and the duck can be mushy. The fried mushrooms are crispy, and the Hed Tod fried oyster mushrooms are surprisingly chip-like with a super crispy thin batter. The khao pad mun nuer with soy cured egg yolk is a highlight, featuring flavorful rice with perfectly cooked short rib pieces.

Khao Tiew San Francisco is a standout establishment, serving delicious, simple, and authentic local Thai dishes. They truly impress with creative and tasty twists on old favorites, such as their exceptional Khao Soi. The baseline heat level is mild, which is perfect for most palates, but you can easily customize your spice level by adding the hot powder conveniently available on the table. The khao soi is creamy, rich, and mildly spicy, making it a favorite for many. Despite some minor flaws and a sometimes long wait, Khao Tiew is a good choice for those looking for flavorful and satisfying food. Reservations are recommended for larger groups, but those with smaller parties can join the waitlist. Overall, Khao Tiew is worth a visit for anyone in the area.

Secret to avoiding long waits to probably the hottest restaurant in West Portal & one of the most popular & best in SF - No reservations … restaurant opens at 4pm . Arrive & line up at 3:45 oh about 20 or so diners ahead of us … 3:55 Server comes out & takes a head count for the 1st round of diners! !!!

Yay, we’re in & it IS Bangkok Delish !!! Meaning .. like the food in Thailand ..not watered down for western palate !!

Been to Khao Tiew 5+ times now and the food is always on point, but huge shoutout to the host on our last visit. My friends were running late with a fussy baby, and even though Yelp had us listed as next, she was super flexible about it. Instead of canceling our spot in the waitlist or making us restart, she just let a few other groups go ahead of us until everyone showed up. Really appreciated the flexibility, we’ll definitely keep coming back!
