About Kokko

Kokko is a popular Japanese restaurant located in downtown San Mateo, offering both indoor and outdoor dining with a casual ambiance. The menu focuses on delicious skewers, with highlights like pork belly and gizzard. Appetizers such as takoyaki and karaage are recommended, but guests should be mindful not to overorder. The torisorobodon is a simple yet delicious dish worth trying. Despite the busy atmosphere, the service is efficient and attentive. The unagi skewers and black sesame tantan men are also praised for their delicious and filling qualities. While parking may be a challenge, nearby options are available. The restaurant's small interior is complemented by a covered and heated outdoor seating area.

I had quite a nice time. Their hi's were very good.

Standout yakitori for me were the scallops and chicken thighs. Sapporo on tap. Takowas was very crisp. No complaints all around and service was attentive and the kitchen was quick.

Looking forward to my next visit when I am in the area again.
A small yakitori house on 2nd Avenue in downtown San Mateo, about two dozen seats and dinner only. The skewers run from chicken thigh and tsukune to pork belly and duck, the karaage is as good as the regulars say, and the soboro don rounds out the night. Closed Monday and Tuesday, so plan around it. Thank you for the charcoal work. Five stars.
