I picked up a sandwich to go. When I got home, I noticed the lunch was a chicken salad. I called the Cafe to let them know, Amy, the kitchen supervisor, was most gracious: she told me the next time I come in, the meals on them. To that I say cheers!
This is a great little secret in San Rafael. Always good homemade food at a very low price. It’s part of Whistlestop.

Vivalon Café, opened in January 2024, offers excellent food at reasonable prices. With a membership, meals are only eight dollars, otherwise twelve. The menu changes Monday to Friday, featuring delicious soups, sandwiches, and entrees like meatloaf. A chicken salad mix-up was graciously resolved by the kitchen supervisor. The comfort food impressed even discerning "foodies," with one praising the meatloaf as the best in a long time. Membership benefits include affordable meals and the opportunity to participate in classes, making Vivalon Café a worthwhile dining choice for all.
