“Traditional Salvadorean Cuisine in the SFV✨
Our first time trying Salvadorean food at this family owned restaurant in Reseda.
Carlos gave us some great recommendations so we ended up trying pupusas for the first time. It’s made with a homemade corn dough. It’s thicker than a regular corn tortilla and stuffed with ground pork and cheese. They have a variety of fillings. You can add salsa roja, a flavorful tomato-based sauce or habanero sauce. Served with Curtido, a tangy, fermented cabbage slaw. So crispy, cheesy and filling. It came burning hot - I could barely hold it. 😂 But, I would definitely order this again! ☺️
We tried Desayuno Típico, a traditional Salvadoran breakfast, which came with casamiento (beans and rice mixed together), Salvadorean style chorizo, fried plantains, 2 eggs, avocado, fresh cheese and Salvadorean style sour cream and homemade corn tortillas.

“I could tell by the hole in the wall look and counter stocked with various Salvadorian products from snacks to baby lotion that this was going to be a good spot. Everything is fresh and made to order (including the oj!), the portions are generous, and the prices are great. The service was quick and friendly. I will certainly be back!!!
Dietary restrictions: I follow an anti inflammatory diet and i dont eat potato or gluten it was noce to have options like yuca on the menu!“

“Very good service. Love your food dishes with the correct temperature and presentation. quality ..apart from helpful attention ..only on some occasions I find some that serve as bad for getting out of the commitment ..I would ask that they maintain the temperament of kindness regardless of their personal problems or some problem with kitchen to serve ..nothing more than that ..but in general I give 8.5“

“Biggest thing to know is that is cash only. The place is very compact, but homey.
Good food, and well seasoned. Only issue was how expensive it was. Parking is a little tough, but worth it for a little piece of Central America here in LA. Posting the latest menu updates circa 09/2024“

“Authentic Salvadoran pupusas!
El Jocoreño is a little piece of Latin America in Los Angeles! Right now basic pupusas are $3.50 which is a great price for a sit down restaurant and the pupusas are amazing.
The restaurant is humble but it’s not a hole in the wall. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. People say “Good Afternoon” as they pass bye quite often. Locals come here and they have loyal customers. It’s a little piece of El Salvador! I love the atmosphere and listening to the cumbias in the kitchen!
This is my favorite pupusa restaurant and I’ve been to other good sit down pupusa places!
I had two pupusas revueltas with beans. They have chicharron and cheese as well. I also had a special Lent pupusa made of rice flour and shrimp. All pupusas here are not greasy, they’re thick and packed with flavor! Very important because many places sell greasy pupusas. I also had a delicious cup of tamarind water! One of my favorite drinks is Salvadoran horchata which is different than Mexican horchata. I like their version better. Try it. It’s amazing!
The service here is so good! The lady that attends you is a sweet woman with great manners and very efficient.
I believe they are cash only still.
Meter parking outside. They have a small lot behind the restaurant!“

“The pupusas were delicious. They were the perfect thickness; there was plenty of filing, and the masa was not too thick. Cooked to perfection, they were not greasy at all. We enjoyed a nice selection of the different types offered. Our party included a Salvadoran who knows his pupusas. We also ordered a plate of rice, beans, and fried plantains. They were wonderful. We definitely will be going back. The staff were courteous and very helpful. Everything was clean and tidy inside of the restaurant.“

“Best pupusas in Arleta, I recommend the gallina asada soup (delicious), sopa de res and the sopa de pata. Also the mojarra frita if you want to eat well and have real nutrients come here. It's a nice place to eat there as well they have a nice patio in front of the road where you can relax. 🫡 Estelitas Forever!“

“Parking is horrible. Not their fault. Their sweet bread is delicious. A lot of talking between the employees it's hard to hear when they are asking you a question. The bakery itself is very small. I haven't tried their food but the sweet bread is good.“

“Delicious hot food, refreshing drinks, and fresh papusas. Friendly, fast service. Some entres tend to be very light on salt. A request I have for this place is to please place bilingual signage in front of each food item for easy identification and ordering. Although, they do have a menu on the wall, it's difficult to read for some. Other than that, food is fresh, hot, and delicious!“

“Best hidden gem for Salvadorean food. Prices are extremely reasonable and they arguably have the best soups in LA: sopa de res, sopa de pollo and 7 mares. Pupusas are very delicious and made very well. Food comes out a bit slow but that's how you know they make it fresh.“

“This place is definitely a hole in the wall. It’s nothing fancy. But for those who know, it seriously looks just like grandmas kitchen and has that at home feeling to it. The service is desperately terrible but none of any of that matters because the food is ridiculously amazing! If you enjoy Salvadoran cuisine, you can catch someone’s grandma in the kitchen making pupusas and they taste insanely authentic and possibly the best I have ever had hands down. I can wolf down 4 “Revueltas” or “Queso con Loroco” with cheese oozing out of the sides and burnt crispy in a bliss of goodness. The sauce and cabbage that goes on top is incredible. This place is as home made Salvadoran as you might ever get without traveling to the suburbs of San Salvador and sitting at someone’s grandmas kitchen table. This is a must stop for anyone craving a good pupusa!“

“Oh, foods that I missed eating from my country and here I find them, even their seasoning is the same as mine, how funny he is, Salvador, it's good that here they haven't lost the reason for cooking, it's knowing that he doesn't just cook for a client, yes. not for someone in the family.“
“My first time ordering was over the phone, waited about 20 minutes and they were right about on time. Most restaurants take your order and forget the time. As for the Carne asada burrito and the Bean and cheese Pupusas were delicious. I will definitely be going back. Staff was nice.“
