Wagon Train Coffee Shop Reviews
Food was surprisingly good
Stopped in Truckee to see the Donner Museum on our way farther west and had breakfast here. Amazing food and more than reasonable prices (we got the early bird special, half off breakfast - under $40 for three large meals and coffee).
The sourdough toast with homemade blackberry jam was AMAZING. Only regret is they don't sell it by the jar.
We had such a nice time here, really friendly and down to earth diner atmosphere with nice people. But the real star was the shrimp and sausage gumbo. The gumbo here is better than gumbo we’re had in New Orleans! We got to chat with one of the proprietors, and she’s from Louisiana and brought her family’s gumbo recipe here. Get it as a main or as a side, you won’t be disappointed.

The Wagon Train Coffee Shop is a charming, family-owned establishment that offers a cozy, rustic ambiance and high-quality food. The menu features a variety of options, including delicious Gumbo made daily, fresh fries, and perfectly cooked medium-rare burgers on freshly baked buns. The staff is attentive and friendly, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. While the menu may be extensive, the food is consistently excellent, with customers praising the outstanding biscuits and gravy, as well as the superb service. The coffee, although sometimes imperfect, is freshly brewed. This hidden gem is a rare find, perfect for a quiet breakfast or a casual gathering with friends. The Wagon Train Coffee Shop is a charming spot that is worth visiting, but note that they close at 1:00 pm.
