“Avocado toast was odd, more like a packaged avocado shmear with too much oil. Coffee was good, service was also a bit slow for a coffee shop with 2 people working and 2 customers, but everybody has slow days so I wouldn’t knock them on it. “We came here for lunch on one of our days in Truckee. We don't drink beer but we ordered some other drinks that were amazingly delicious. For our appy, we ordered these shrimp bao buns that were super flavorful. I ordered the bratwurst hotdog and that was yummy with a healthy helping of sauerkraut and two types of dip - cheese or grainy mustard. To be honest, that bratwurst wrapped in a pretzel bun could stand on its own without any dips...OMG! so good that u still remember how it tastes nearly a week after our trip. My husband ordered the turkey burger and that thing came loaded and he said it was one of the best turkey burgers he's ever had. “Really enjoyed the Brussel Sprouts and the soup of the day being a Guinness Beef Stew. Great beer selection but food is a bit limited. Almost everything is super cheesy. Service was really friendly and knowledgeable but got left alone for pretty long periods of time when we needed water/refills and the check. Still a really cool spot.“

The servers were friendly and attentive. The prices were reasonable, especially considering the HUGE portion sizes. My partner and I each got a sandwich from the menu and decided against getting any appetizers, which thank goodness we did! Those two sandwiches could have fed 3 or 4 people! I got the steak dip which was umami heaven and my partner got the pomegranate chicken sandwich which was flavorful, juicy, and a little bit different (in the best possible way).We ended up coming back the next day and getting just a couple appetizers for lunch. “Here's the low-down: 1. Food - There's a lot of attention to detail here; there's fresh baked bread, there's Gumbo made daily, there's fresh fries. This is not a place that embraces canned / frozen foods. The medium rare burger I had was perfect with fresh fries and (seemed like) a freshly baked bun. My one complaint was the first cup of coffee; it tasted a little burned, but we were there late in the day. Also, I'd have rather seen a smaller menu featuring only what they do best, but that's my preference. I did not hear any complaints from anyone else while I was there. 2. Service - It was busy, and it's a coffee shop; you're not here to have a Maitre d' experience. You're going to get the friendly coffee shop vibe that borders on overly familiar. If you're not used to this, it might feel uncomfortable, but stay with it, you'll expand your horizons. 3. Ambiance - Wagon train doesn't try to be what it's not; it's a coffee shop with some fantastically crafted food. It feels like a locals-only gem despite its location in the middle of the downtown area. This is a rare gem where corners are not being cut; this kind of place is rapidly becoming a lost bit of Americana, definitely get in there and taste it while you can.“

I get to swing in to pick up my Meatless Monday's 3 course meal, and dinner is done for the night. Perfect place to go after picking up my kids from sports practice and know I've got a gluten free, locally sourced and tasty meal to feed the whole family. I buy organic and local myself, and enjoy supporting businesses that do the same.“

“We had a great meal at Stella. The food is elevated and yet the ambience is casual enough for kids. It's also very close to downtown Truckee so very convenient. We ordered the hamachi crudo (staff favorite) which was an excellent starter (with mushrooms, avocado and some additional elements i can't remember - the fish was a tiny bit fishy but the flavor and preparation made up for it), the little gems salad with sundried tomatoes and croutons, the eggplant dip with focaccia, and the sea bass entree. It was all really delicious, and just the right amount for two of us. The kids ate off the kids menu - the fish of the day (grouper) with fingerling potatoes and broccolini, and the pasta with pecorino and added chicken (an entire sous vide chicken breast!). Both were successful options. The ambience is open and bright with the big windows, but not as cozy and romantic if that's what you're looking for. Also it did take nearly two hours for our meal as the restaurant seemed a bit short staffed. We can't complain though since they were willing to move us up to a 6 pm.“

“Came in for coffee and a snack before driving out of the area. Wasn’t expecting to have some of the best baked goods I’ve had in quite some time. The chocolate chip cookie was perfection. “I built my own sandwich and I felt the price was very reasonable. Everything is made to go but there is a space to eat there. There's also a water station by the place where you pick up the coffee, which I used to refill my water bottles. It's also a little grocery store which is convenient. Also the gallon of water from the grocery section was $5 and the water bottles were around 3-5 bucks each from the fridge in case you're thinking of buying water like my friends and I did.“

“Ordered lunch for me and my partner she said it would be ten minutes. It took fourteen minutes. This was great because at lunch I wouldn’t expect to get my food in under 20min but we got ours in under fifteen. Very happy with how quickly we got our food. We had the panang curry with tofu lunch special came with a delicious salad and some some fried wontons. And I had the spicy catfish curry with a side of rice. “Food is delicious! Every dish is well-balanced with a focus on bringing out the best in quality ingredients. We ordered the arancini per other recommendations and it was tasty. The charcuterie board is on point - a little bit of everything from familiar to unique. The Brussels sprouts are roasted and served with a balsamic-tinged sauce. The kale salad has tahini that balances a lemon tang. We split the steak frites and the butternut squash ravioli which were both done well. Service was fast and friendly. We ate an early dinner right after the lifts closed and it was only us plus a couple of other tables. The inside of the restaurant is bright and fresh. It's a tad expensive - appetizers/main/drinks might run ~ $75pp but a good value given the quality of the food.“
“We hadn’t been to Cottonwood since before the pandemic. I’d heard it had struggled but it is definitely up to prior standards. The Brussel Sprouts were a delightful surprise, sweet and cooked with apples and bacon. I had the ginger carrot soup which was strong on the ginger, my husband had the French Onion soup which was really good and not too cheesy.My salmon was so big I almost couldn’t finish it- all the portions were large but this was the largest cut of fish I’ve ever had in a restaurant. It was perfectly cooked and had a really nice seasoning. My husband had the short ribs, also a good size portion, and he said it just melted in his mouth.If you haven’t been, Cottonwood sits on the old town hill by the “Hilltop” sign and at night you over look old town Truckee, all lit up. It’s a great view, very chill atmosphere and great food. Good wine list too!Vegetarian options: Not a lot of vegetarian options, but there were a couple including the meat loaf.“
