I went to Boxcar looking for a good cup of coffee. I’ve searched maps, Yelp, Google, and TikTok for places where the beans aren’t burnt or over-roasted. I wanted a welcoming spot with friendly baristas who take the time to help.
It’s not Pergamino in Colombia, where customer service is next level because livelihoods depend on it and employees are given time to train and connect—but this is the closest I’ve found. Friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable staff who explain their beans and give great recommendations.
I was able to drink my coffee black—something most places don’t allow because their beans are over-processed and burnt—and it was delicious. Definitely coming back.
I can’t wait to go when it’s a bit slower and pick the baristas' brains even more.

Excellent coffee. Typically crowded until the late morning so expect to wait anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes before getting your coffee.
Showed up at 4:07. Door was open and told me they were closed and wouldn't sell a bag of beans. No coffee for me today. ☹️

I like going to Boxcar as it's the closest coffee shop to me and I like their selection of pastries. But I'd say while the coffee is good, it's not the best in boulder and the wait time is always very very long!

Good to see they have pain au chocolat :). I'm a fan of French pastries. Neat atmosphere too.
I was here back in August 2024

Lovely coffee and pastries, but slightly overhyped and more expensive than other great coffee spots in Boulder. Would recommend, but anticipate spending a bit!

The cold brew and pour over coffee were both great. We also tried the club sandwich and it did not disappoint.

This is a fantastic coffee shop! I got a cortado and it was exceptional. Definitely a spot where you feel good about the money you spent on it.
