Food was so good. My friend, who was from Indonesia, was with me and said it was very authentic for the region as well. Our whole group would definitely go back!
We had a great experience at Sumatera. Being from Malaysia, this is the best Asian food I've had in Colorado. Just wish I got to meet the chef. Everything we had was delicious and the whole dining experience was pleasant. This is definitely a place to visit if you're in Steamboat. I know I will be back!
Sumatera is in our top 3 steamboat restaurants. Yes its small, yes service can be a little slow and yes its automatic 20% gratuity, but we know that going in! Good food takes patience :)
We have tried most of the menu and agree food is on the spicy side. I am not a huge fan of heat and even at a 1, i am sweating. Their spiciness is not for the weak!

Sumatera Restaurant is a charming, small Indonesian eatery in Steamboat serving Thai and Indian/Nepalese dishes. Authentic and well-spiced Indonesian food is available, including laksa, nasi goreng, and martabak. The funky dining area has a lively atmosphere, but seating is limited, with only five tables. Customers enjoy soto ayam, gado gado, and steamed dumplings, which are made to taste like being in Indonesia. The decor is delightfully quirky, adding to the overall ambiance of the meal. Prices are higher than expected, but the food, such as chicken pad Thai with super flavorful noodles and fresh veggies, is worth the cost. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early as the restaurant is very small and does not take reservations. The food is described as unbelievably delicious and very spicy, with some dishes like Lea's Rolls being favorites.
