Toscana Market Food Court •
1280 4th St NE, Washington

“Incredible food, but what really sets this place apart is their cooking classes. The classes are in high demand so you have to get your tickets in advance, but it is well worth it. We had a bunch of regulars attending with us, so we knew it was going to be a great time. The owner, who instructs the class, is very kind, patient, and generous. He took his time teaching and answering questions, provided more than enough supplies, and did everything he could to ensure we had a wonderful experience. We started with a cocktail and fresh focaccia bread. The marinara sauce with the bread and some other dishes was the tastiest sauce I’ve ever had. There was a self serve station for water and wine throughout the class. We made a fried risotto appetizer, pizza, spinach and cheese ravioli, and gnocchi. The owner and his staff gave one-on-one instruction when needed, and were very nice and helpful. We gave the staff everything we had prepared to be cooked in the kitchen. Our dishes were returned hot and ready for a delicious meal. There was so much food we were provided with to go containers and had it for several meals afterwards. We were also treated to limoncello gelato and limoncello shots at the very end of the class. This class was so fun and informative, and the atmosphere was relaxed. The quality ingredients, experience, drinks, and food were well worth the price. Highly recommend!“

“Western Market is one of DC’s food halls that’s been around for a quite a while and that continues to deliver when it comes to offering a variety of good food options. If you’re a foodie, you’ll enjoy Western Market, which is located right by George Washington (GW) University on 21st & Pennsylvania Ave, NW in Washington, DC. It’s a totally different vibe from Eastern Market, Washington, DC’s legendary food hall located on Capitol Hill, which is on the complete opposite end of the DC from Western Market, which is located in Foggy Bottom, near the West End neighborhood in DC.

There are about 20 different places to eat in Western Market. There is great signage outside so that you know your options before you go inside.

There are also multiple entrances to Western Market on Pennsylvania Ave., and 21st Street and varying levels.

Once inside, prepared to be slightly overwhelmed unless know what you want, because there are so many choices and types of cuisine, it can be hard not to want to try more than one place!

Since it’s so close to GW, University & Hospital, it’s clearly a spot where a lot of students grab a bite. There are offices connected to the building, so I suspect during the day there’s more of a mix of workers in the area and students.

Duke’s Grocery, one of the best places in DC to get a burger according to the Best of DC - Reader’s Choice, is located inside Western Market, but there’s an exterior entrance from Pennsylvania as well as the entrance from inside. It’s an actual restaurant, not a food stall.

In addition to food, there’s a tailor, a CVS, UPS and photo store in Western Market.

I definitely will be going back to Western Market food hall during the day and on an empty stomach! There are several places on my list including some that I’ve had before and others that I haven’t including: Bullfrog Bagels, Capo’s Deli, Duke’s Grocery, ban doo la bowl, EXPAT, and bindaas.

Western Market is a vibrant food hall that is worth absolutely a visit if you’re local and over in that area or a tourist visiting DC and staying in West End. It’s worth the short walk from the hotels.“

“This is a rather small space for a food hall. All the stalls (except for the bar) are on one side and honestly I can't really see a different configuration for this place if they want to keep the amount of seating that they currently have.

I have had the dumplings and fried chicken, and I prefer the fried chicken. I may have gone on an off day for the dumpling place as they seemed a bit overwhelmed. For me, the dumplings were just a bit bland and the wontons I got, the skin was a bit too thick. The chicken however was juicy and had a great flavor profile!“

“New space is quite an improvement on the previous food court, but it's still not quite complete, so too soon for a five star review. I did enjoy the tacos from the taqueria however (Xochi, I believe it was called, will review it separately after trying a few more times).“
