Don't do it!!! So, we were excited about going to Chinatown and we discovered this restaurant. I should have known when I had to walk up those steep steps, not to mention the place did not appear to be really clean. We placed our orders, 5 of us to be exact. My husband said, that waiter snatched the menu out of my hands...When our food was delivered, the waiter was calling out our entrées. We couldn't understand him so, he said loudly and angrily; Duck spelled D-U-C-K!!! Then, he flung the plate on the table as if he were dealing cards. Everyone looked at him, and the manager actually ran over to assist us. We explained to the manager what took place even though he had witnessed it himself. We agreed to pay for our drinks and explained that the waiter had blatantly disrespected us. Therefore, we did not want the food. The manager was very graceful, but never again will I ever step foot in that place. Don't do it!!! The Tiki Drink was outstanding, 1 star for service (yelling, rude, obnoxious, snatching) Bro, you were having a really bad day!!!

Food was delicious. Service was quick and ambiance was like a typical Chinese restaurant you see in a movie.

This place has been there forever and by the looks of the inside they haven't changed much. However, the food was amazing and the customer service was awesome. Highly recommend probably the best Chinese food in Chinatown.

Food was pretty good overall. Very dated and banged up atmosphere with poor service.

I came here for dinner with friends during Otakon 2022. The restaurant is located half a block away from the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro station (the exit with the archway over the street) and is located on the second floor when you enter the building. The decor is pretty out dated but it's nice for a sit down restaurant. The staff was so nice and very attentive. We never needed to ask for anything because they were on top of it. I got the crab wontons as an appetizer and the General Tso's shrimp which comes with broccoli and a side of white rice (Just a heads up that their General Tso's items are spicy! I love spicy food so it was fine for me but if you are sensitive to spice or don't like spicy food then that would be something to consider before ordering this). Everything came out piping hot and fresh and tasted amazing. The prices here are very reasonable for what you order and you get good sized portions (I had half leftover which I had as a snack the next day)! This is my favorite Chinese food restaurant in DC and I will definitely be back!

Up there with the most unpleasant Chinese food experiences of my life. Grossly over priced. Food quality is minorly better than your hole in the wall take out spot. The $5 wonton soup has one, all dough wonton and a soup base of msg. Servers put the check on the table moments after delivering the food while the restaurant was empty. Save yourself the trouble and find a different place.

Bought fried rice and Spicy Jumbo Shrimp. The shrimp was tough and the Fried Rice was like carryout food. Their food quality has dropped tremendously. Also over priced.?

Food was very very good, but the prices are high, plus they added a service charge / gratuity automatically of 20% to the total ! 2 small dumpling appetizers, one beef low mein, and one Singapore curry shrimp pork noodles plus one Tsing Tao beer and waters were $98.56 grand total !!!

Excellent food and probably the most historic Chinese restaurant in Washington DC. The real draw of this place is the ambience and the interior. It's a historic building in a historic location, and from what I understand it is the oldest Chinese restaurant in the small Chinatown that Washington DC actually has. The customer service was very friendly and the food was excellent. It's a little bit pricey but definitely worth a visit. It is not actually a Mongolian restaurant, although there are a couple of Authentic Mongolian dishes on the menu. The interior and ambience inside is stunning and brings you back to the past. I'm surprised that it has Mongolian in the name, but it's not really a Mongolian restaurant, and there are from what I understand a Mongolian community in Washington DC

Best general tsos chicken in dc hands down, deliciously crunchy and flavorful chunks of chicken breast and lots of numb-y sichuan pepper!! Their hot and sour soup and crab rangoons are great too. Definitely the ambiance of a restaurant from 20 years ago, but it is and that's what makes it so charming. Service is always great when I dine-in; I am usually by myself but they always find a way to seat me and I really appreciate it. food is always packaged well when I order takeout or uber eats.

Tony Cheng's used to be one of my favorite restaurants in DC. It seems to have really gone downhill. The place feels kind of sad and dumpy inside. The Mongolian barbecue was locked up tight with padlocks on the door. We went upstairs to the Chinese restaurant instead. I ordered the Vegetarian chow fun noodles and my wife had the fried tofu. We also ordered some vegetarian eggrolls, which were OK. The hot mustard sauce will fry your brain! Anyway, my entree can be summed up in 3 words: bland, bland, BLAND! I ate a little bit of it and then took the rest home. Why would I take it home if it tasted so bland? Because I was actually able to recook it and add some flavor. I threw in sesame oil, hot sesame oil, hot Chinese chilis, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, tricolor sesame seeds, togarashi, salt and pepper, onion powder, Chinese black vinegar, garlic powder, and fried it all in Chinese stirfry oil. But it was sad to me that the food didn't taste good in the restaurant where I ordered it. I really hope Tony Cheng's comes back to making good food. BTW with 2 entrees, 1 appetizer and a beer for me, our total was $69! That's in part due to DC's mandatory 20% service charge aka forced tip. Classic socialist DC style, SMH.

Service was incredible. My husband never needed for a topped up glass.Food was good. Not ooohhhooohh good. Just good. I had egg drop soup, which was really good and calamari. The calamari was undercooked and very chewy. I make my own and they did not use the sweetest squid parts. My husband had Mongolia beef and loved it. Maybe it was the time of day. It was 4pm. We were seated by the kitchen. Watched the cook, come out and play on his cell phone. Would i make the trek into DC for more? No. Have a place 2 blocks from my house in Falls Church that is tastier and more for my dollar. As i said, maybe it was the time of day. I WOULD still recommend it if being a tourist in Washington DC china town. 75.00 2 appetizers, 1 main entree and 2 rum drinks.

I’m not pleased with this Resturaunt , it’s outdated, looks dingy and proprietors believe your receipt is a gift to savor until you get your food. Seeing what’s on it is part of the deal, merchant to purchaser. That being said Food, horrid ! just sad, the shrimp & broccoli over cooked and inedible and was not an appetizing aroma either. Trashed it! 2 orders of Shrimp fried Rice? where was the authentic seasonings and flavor? these were noticeably absent, Trashed . This “GrandFeast” which also included some greasy spring rolls , Trashed !, cost / $100 to say that we were upset is beyond ! It’s incredible how Restaurants and places alike rob consumers with subpar food, service and courteousness and wonder why ppl don’t tip. Tips are for great service not just because you rolled into work and think , “ Hey , I did a good job” do a great job at whatever you set out to do. We aren’t asking for much. Stop phoning it in!!! You chose the job, or vocation , so do you best at it. Horrible food is still horrible no matter how it’s presented. In this case , a not so Happy manner. Needless to say , I’m done with this joint!!! Tony Cheng’s in Chinatown!!!!!
