USDA Food Hall Reviews
The USDA Food Hall Court is one of those places you’d never find unless someone tipped you off. No signs, no hype, no breadcrumbs. Just suddenly… boom, a massive buffet hiding in plain sight.
This is hands-down the best buffet in the country, and it isn’t even close. It’s not just better than mall food courts—it’s in a completely different league. Think Italian, Asian, BBQ, Southern, Southwestern, and then some. The selection is enormous, and somehow the quality...read full review

Food is average, salty and expensive
The U.S. Department of Agriculture South Building Cafeteria is a convenient dining option for visitors to the nearby museums and the National Mall. The cafeteria features a variety of mains, sides, salads, soups, and fruits, with additional stations offering Korean food, sushi, and sandwiches. While the original buffet-style menu may have shifted to a mall-type setup where different locations serve cooked-to-order meals, the cafeteria still provides a diverse selection. The atmosphere has a college cafeteria feel, with clean surroundings, friendly staff, and reasonable prices. It is especially suitable for large groups or those who forgot to make a lunch reservation and need a place to sit.
The food quality may not always meet expectations, but some items like sweet plantains and a salmon poke bowl are highly recommended. Although others, such as tuna salad and Salisbury steak, may not be as satisfying, dishes like Mongolian beef, Mac and cheese, and wings are more tolerable. The cafeteria offers gluten-free options like an Açaí bowl and sushi for those with dietary restrictions. It is praised for its good service, ample seating, and convenient location near the Smithsonian metro station. Despite some concerns about specific menu items, the cafeteria remains a decent choice for a quick lunch, especially for those exploring the area.
