There was more service for the politician in the backroom then those of us in the main dining room. Also, why have papa rellenas on the restaurant menu when only available on the cafeteria side. You may have a good reputation but ALL customers matter and not only the politicians giving a press release.
Famous Calle Ocho dining room serving up traditional ropa vieja, Cuban sandwiches, sweet plantains, and strong espresso. The main dining room wait can stretch long on weekends, but ordering a pastelito and coffee from the walk-up exterior window is fast and authentic.
The town square of Little Havana since 1971, where the Cuban sandwich, pressed until the bread crackles and the Swiss melts over roast pork, is the legend it claims to be. Follow it with ropa vieja, sweet maduros and a flan, then join the line at La Ventanita for a cafecito. Loud, fast and unapologetically classic.
