The Twisted Horse Bar and Grill has taken the place of the old Blackbeard Tavern, and the new owners have put some big money into this place. After Ian did a lot of damage and it stayed dark and musty inside after the storm, just about everything has been redone or spiffed up. It is brighter and smells good. The patio area under the tiki has some new furniture and they added a counter along the sidewalk. It is a great place to watch boaters and see the canal during the day. The menu has a good variety, sure to please most diners.
The hot honey chicken pizza has great pizza crust. The Fish Dip is served with fresh fried pork skins (chicharrones) instead of crackers, still popping from the fryer, surrounding a cup of smoked fish spread. The fish spread is excellent, not real smokey and a mild whitefish, not oily. The Meatball Bombs are meatballs, stuffed with mozzarella cheese, wrapped in pastry and deep fried. The meatballs are tender, the cheese warm and gooey and the pastry is thin. Burgers are excellent and fries are wonderful n crispy. Service is great. One of our new favorites.
