I had a craving for a taste of local flavor, so I drove to Islands in the Pines. When I lived in South Florida (pre pandemic) my friends and frequented this place regularly for their delicious brown stew chicken, cabbage, and rice/peas.

Islands in the Pines is a Jamaican-inspired restaurant located in a strip mall on the NW corner of University Drive and Pines Boulevard. The eatery has a clean and simple dining room with an island theme, plenty of parking, and a spacious area for dining in. They serve traditional Jamaican dishes such as brown stew chicken, jerk chicken, and stewed pork, although availability can be hit-or-miss. Portion sizes are decent, and prices are reasonable. While the food can be flavorful, some dishes may lack flavor, and the service can be inconsistent. Servers can be pleasant but sometimes surly, and utensils may not always be readily available. Despite some drawbacks, the restaurant remains a popular spot for those craving local flavor and Jamaican cuisine.
