Gladys’ Kitchen is a staple in the community, synonymous with Southern hospitality and comfort food—and they did not miss!
From the moment we walked in, it felt like visiting your favorite aunt’s house on a Sunday after church. The food was hot and fresh, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Gladys Kitchen is a cozy restaurant with a small but thoughtfully designed space, offering a warm and inviting dining experience. The menu features a variety of protein options, including baked chicken, fried chicken, and smothered pork chops, served with flavorful sides such as rice and dressing, stewed tomatoes, okra, collards, macaroni and cheese, black-eyed peas, and cornbread muffins and pancakes. The restaurant also offers desserts like banana pudding and red velvet cake. Guests praise the excellent customer service, with staff being attentive and friendly, creating an atmosphere similar to visiting a favorite aunt’s house on a Sunday after church. The fried chicken is described as delicious and juicy with a crispy crust, and the vegetables are well seasoned. The dressing may be a bit dry but still flavorful, and the collard greens are finely cut and flavorful, not from a can. The Butter Roll is noted as a sweet treat rather than bread—“some kinda wonderful.” Many visitors mention the food being hot, fresh, and delicious, with a home-cooked Southern taste that feels just like what Grandma cooks. The atmosphere is very clean and inviting, making it a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. While parking may be limited, the restaurant is worth a visit for its delicious homemade Southern cuisine and warm hospitality, including fried chicken, black-eyed peas, cabbage, and peach cobbler. Many guests leave feeling satisfied and impressed by the quality and care in the food and service, with some travelers riding long distances to enjoy the food.
