10 Best Pubs in Athens

“Royal Peasant is located near Five Points, south of UGA. There is street parking in the area or you can park at the Fire Station for two hours.

This is a good English pub. They have done a great job of decorating the inside, giving it that genuine feel. And the server was attentive and answered questions well. The food dragged it down in my rating. My daughter had the lamb vindaloo, which came with very little lamb but lots of rice and sauce. I had the Bangers and Mash, which was presented very well but the bangers weren’t top notch. It may have been the turmeric in the cabbage, now that I think about it. My wife had the Royale with Cheese, which was cooked correctly and tasted like… a burger. So it goes.

I will say that the Korean BBQ pork belly starter was great! I highly recommend it.

All that aside- for Athens, this is probably the best English Pub experience you will get! I may return in the future to give it a second try.

One thing I noticed: the outside was heavily populated by students, while the inside was populated by non-student (adult) locals. And the inside people hung out rather than eat and run. That says something!“

“I made a note on my online order last night begging for drums to be a certain flavor and flats to be a diff flavor. They did it AND w a sweet smiley note. Every time I eat this restaurant I have a great experience. The Togo orders are always perfect!! That was the most awesome thing ever and it made my day!! I really hope whoever made that happen got some of the tips. I came back in to leave more to hopefully get some to the mysterious person that made it possible. YALL ROCK! I will be making it a point to eat here more often!“

“Nice study or work spot. Daytime coffee spot turns into a fun bar at night with indoor and outdoor spaces and a badass cousin bar hidden upstairs outback. If I go to study or work, I always find a good spot, put my stuff down and go get a drink because in the past people have sometimes used the space without being a customer and I want to be respectful of that.
Walkers has been an amazing part of downtown and UGA’s North campus downtown for years and will always have a special place in my heart!!“
