The Vandiver is a restaurant offering a refined and purposeful menu in an atmosphere that strikes a perfect balance of upscale and casual. The space is tastefully renovated, comfortable, and features a very nice bar area that opens at 4pm, separate from the dining area where the kitchen opens at 5pm. The food is delicious with excellent presentation. Notable dishes include the duck with a blackberry gastrique and kale-brussel hybrid, a marinated Steak Frites, and moist salmon. The bacon pea risotto is described as amazing and very filling. Other praised items are the shrimp and grits, trout, burger and fries, scallops with quinoa, mushrooms and grilled asparagus, and the kale Caesar salad. For appetizers, the fried green tomatoes and crab cake are outstanding. The restaurant offers many gluten-free options, including an apple pear sorbet noted as the best ever. Desserts are highly recommended, particularly the Mousse Cake and the peach cobbler cheesecake. The bar serves interesting cocktails and has an approachable wine program.
