Everything we’ve had has been amazing and definitely way better quality in flavor and service everything compared to anywhere in Hartwell.
If you don’t at least try it… you are missing out.

Tommy Ray's BBQ is a great walk-up to order barbecue restaurant, a hidden gem for anybody traveling just north and west of Hartwell, GA. It is a nice clean looking establishment on a bluff with a two level patio overlooking a cove of the lake, where boaters can pull up to a floating dock. This is a family run business and everyone is very friendly, with service described as above and beyond excellent, welcoming, and a pleasure to talk with.
The barbecue is cooked perfectly with just the right amount of smokiness. The beef brisket is tender and juicy, melts in your mouth, smoky, and divine, matching other top barbecue. It can be served lean or fatty, sliced or chopped, and comes with delicious burnt ends. The smoked chicken leg quarter or chicken half plate is smoked perfectly, so tender the meat just falls off the bone. The ribs are the absolute best, rubbed with spices and fall off the bone. The pulled pork is also good.
Sides include some of the best Brunswick stew anywhere, with a broth not too thick and a large amount of pulled pork. The coleslaw is basic with a fine dice, prepared just right. The mac and cheese is cheesy. Meals come with two sides and a slice of bread. Sauces are all so good, including a sweet honey sauce, a root beer sauce, and homemade sauces described as peak. It is the best barbecue in Hartwell, 100 times better than any other in the surrounding counties. Customers look forward to eating there again and highly recommend it.
