Based on the reviews, Royal Kitchen is a small takeout spot located in the Chinese Cultural Plaza along the river. The restaurant has been around for a very long time and is one of the original go-to spots for Chinese dim sum in Chinatown. The staff is friendly, helpful, and fast, though they can be pushy when the shop gets crowded to keep the line moving. The shop has no indoor seating, but there is outdoor seating available nearby along the river. Parking is available in the plaza's paid garage or on nearby meter street parking.
The food is a great value. The manapua is a standout item, as authentic as it comes and proudly made with love. The baked char siu manapua is a favorite, with a pillowy soft bun and flavorful filling that is on the sweet side. The pork hash is excellent, stuffed full with delicious pork. Other menu items include roast chicken, dumplings, buns, crispy gau gee, and half moons. The taste and quality of these classics haven’t changed in decades. For under $100, one can pick up 2 dozen manapua, 12 pieces of half moons, and 12 pieces of pork hash. It is recommended to buy as early as possible.
