Whatever you do, don't order the mushroom with tofu and white sauce. My wife's mongolion beef was awesome and so were the pot stickers and crab rangoons. Biting into the mushrooms in mine were like biting into a terrifying nature gusher, tough on the outside with a misterious liquid gushing into my mouth upon biting. The tofu's texture was good for non seared tofu, but the white sauce's texture and color was clearish white with a viscous half jelly half liquid texture. Overall...read full review
LOVE THE SPICY CHICKEN
This was probably the best Chinese food I’ve ever had so far in Ames! I had the spring rolls and the potstickers, where they just melt in your mouth 🤤 and the sliced pork in garlic sauce was delicious! Due to short staffing, it might be a little slow (it did say in the window that it would be) however the food is all worth it!

Szechuan House serves quick, delicious Chinese food that is light and healthy, not heavy with sugary American sauces. The overall quality is excellent, with standout dishes like the Pan Seared Spinach, Scallion Pancakes, Beef w ginger and scallion, Beef and broccoli, and crab rangoons. One reviewer always gets the Hot & Spicy Chicken, calling it MILES better than alternatives, with strong flavor and the best, most fluffiest white rice. However, the price point is a little steep at $18 before tip, and some portion sizes include tiny fried bits with no chicken or empty red pepper husks, so value could be improved. The service is the best in a long time, with Tom providing excellent, patient, and funny service, offering phenomenal dinner options. The room feels funny, especially in winter, and the seats are not comfy, with no music playing, but the food cannot be beat for quality and honesty.
