“My wife and I were in town for the "Beyond Van Gogh" exhibit at the Mid-America Center. Afterward, we looked up restaurants near us and chose La Sierra because several reviews mentioned authentic cuisine. We were not misled. The menu is small and straight forward. Pick your fillings and choose it in either a gordita, burrito, quesadilla or on a plate. We both got selections as gorditas. My wife ordered: Asado De Puerco, Picadillo Verde and Picadillo Rojo. I ordered: Papas Con Carne, Papas Con Chorizo and Deshabrada. I also wound up getting a burrito with Machaca. All the meats were seasoned nicely and delicious. Both the verde and rojo salsas they brought out enhanced the food. The rojo does have a kick (same sauce as in the Desshbrada) but the heat didn't linger so eating it was enjoyable. The margarita I ordered was delicious, made with real lime juice. Some people might complain because it is regular sized, served in a glass roughly the size of a martini glass. It isn't a gigantic gimmick you find in a lot of American-Mexican restaurants. It hit the spot! The fruit empanadas were lovely, the crust similar to a sugar cookie with strawberry or apricot. We tried both and thought the apricot won by a hair. Its sweet flavor was slightly stronger than the strawberry. The service was excellent, both our server and the gentleman from the kitchen (maybe owner) who brought out food to the table were extremely friendly and a pleasure to speak with. We've marked La Sierra in our "must do again" list and when we care back in Omaha, we will be stopping in.“

“While staying in downtown Omaha, my husband and I walked from Hotel Indigo to Block 16 and quickly understood why there was a crowd both outside and inside when we arrived around 6:00 PM.

We ordered at the counter and found the process easy and efficient. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. We especially appreciated being told about free refills and being checked on to ensure we were enjoying our meal and overall experience.

We shared a grilled cheese sandwich and the Funky Fungi Fries. Both were outstanding. The flavors were distinct, creative, and clearly intentional. The portions were generous enough for a hungry individual but also worked perfectly for sharing between two people, which is exactly what we did.

What impressed us most was how well everything came together. Despite the restaurant being busy, the food quality, service, and overall experience never seemed to suffer.

Block 16 is an easy recommendation for anyone visiting Omaha. Great food, friendly staff, generous portions, and a restaurant that clearly understands why people keep coming back.“

The waitress we had was very friendly and did a great job answering any questions and explaining the menu. We had the crab rangoons, everything smoked salmon, and 3 sushi rolls…all were delicious. Everything on the menu is amazing, especially the chorizo, pancakes and eggs. I have to go back for a donut very soon. The price is also totally affordable! The restrooms were clean and away from any sitting area so nobody had to sit by the restrooms!! The prices were reasonable they do have handicapped parking and the entrance does have ramps to get up to it. Do not have handicap automatic doors so if you need help with that bring someone with you or call the restaurant to see if someone can help. Otherwise a great place to take yourself or your family to eat. I forgot to write that the staff do speak both Spanish and English.“

“Went for our anniversary dinner and had a delicious meal. The space was easy to find and we were welcomed and seated immediately. Some confusion i guess within the staff on it being our first time, but it really wasn't a big deal. We were giving champagne as a gift and our sweet waitress got pictures of my husband and I which I thought was very sweet. We'll be back!“
