“My husband and I stopped in at Lalo's after visiting the Museum and Aquarium. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I ordered mango margarita. The waiter was thoughtful enough to ask if I wanted sugar, salt, or tajin on the rim (tajin - of course!). We ordered and received the food quickly. I got the Mar y Tierra (Surf n Turf) and my husband got the Chile Colorado. Both were absolutely delicious and more than we could eat in one sitting. Could not ask for more. Definitely recommend this place!”

“I've never been a barfly. Nothing against those who are, but it's not my style. I like a place where I can sip or swill good drink and have a good conversation and a few laughs with good company, whether friends or strangers, without having to scream myself hoarse to be heard. EJ's is like an evening coffee shop that way: good beer, wine, and cocktail offerings, and a few small snacks, all well-curated. Quiet, friendly vibe, like you'd find in any European outdoor bar or cafe. The one time I ever heard of a troglodyte trying to start something, the owner handled him with decisive authority and ejected him, protecting his customers and the vibe. A German friend was in town recently, and was blown away by seeing on the shelf a Munich beer from his neighborhood that had just started production maybe a year prior. This is the Goldilocks of wine/beer/cocktail bars: no snootiness, no boorishness. Just good folks serving good drinks like they know what they're doing. Dubuque's Millwork District is lucky to have them.”

Stopped by Jitters Cafe in Dubuque and had an awesome experience. I grabbed a couple specialty coffees for my sister and my niece (who just found out she’s pregnant), and everything was perfect. I grabbed some to-go specialty macchiatos which were made exactly right — smooth, flavorful, and not over-sweet.
The service was fast, friendly, and full of smiles, and the atmosphere is really cool too: contemporary, clean, and just a nice place to be. Definitely coming back.”

With short notice they got us set up in the back room, Melissa delivered perfect service, all 14 meals came out at once, all the food was excellent and the price was very reasonable. “My friends and I recently rented the igloo at Dark Bird Tap House. It was great fun! The igloo was nicely decorated and even included winter theme blankets! The igloo was warm and very comfortable. “I would have to say this is definitely a gem of Dubuque. It being the oldest bar in Dubuque opened in 1933. Their burgers are an unforgettable delicacy as well as good memories for many of Dubuquers.”
