“I wish Mandarin Grill was closer to my house - or maybe not, because I would be a regular to an alarming degree. I’ve eaten lunch here multiple times in the past month and still haven’t hit the point of “that’s enough.” If anything, I’m getting more committed and now I’ve started working through their Korean/Chinese specialty menu. Honestly, it’s been a very successful journey.
I brought my kids a few weeks ago and now they keep begging for a return trip. The only snag is I can really only make it for lunch - but luckily, their lunch pricing is super reasonable, so that works out in my favor.
I’m fully locked in on the spicy edamame and crabmeat rangoons. The edamame hits the spot - not too garlicky and not “you’ll taste this tomorrow” levels. I usually eat a few and then take the rest home so they can soak up more of that spicy soy garlic situation. Addicting midnight snack behavior. The rangoons are packed with cream cheese (not like other places that skimp on the good stuff) and are more savory, not weirdly sweet. So. Freaking. Good.
At this point, I’ve basically run through all their yellow curries - combo, beef, chicken - and even trued some fried tofu off a friend’s plate. I’m not typically a tofu person, but the sauce could carry anything. I’d eat it off a flip-flop if it came down to it (…not proud but just being honest).
A few standouts from the Korean/Chinese specialty menu: stir-fry potatoes, bibimbap, and kimchi fried rice. The potatoes are a problem - in the sense that regular potatoes now feel like a total letdown. If you haven’t tried potatoes this style, I highly recommend. Bibimbap is everything-in-one-bowl with an egg on top, and somehow it’s just as good (maybe better?) reheated.
I’m definitely forgetting a few dishes, but lately I’ve also been on a bento box kick at lunch - little bits of everything, which feels like the correct life choice for me so I can sample several things. Bento boxes are organized heaven, neatly sectioned off like a proper plate should be. 🍱
What else is on their menu that I should try? I’m making my way through the whole dang thing at this point.“

“Teriyaki Madness is a fast food restaurant specializing in teriyaki dishes, preparing all orders fresh rather than in advance. I used to go to a place like this years ago in Nashville and always wished we had one in the Des Moines Metro.
The restaurant is ideal for individuals who are running errands, grabbing a bite on their own or have limited time. There is a small seating area, so I would not recommend this place for a large group. Takeout is available, but I recommend you order ahead, given that all meals are made to order and may require a wait.
The bowls provide a well-balanced meal of protein, carbs and veggies. The menu, though focused on teriyaki, has a notable range of choices. You select from different protein options and pick either white rice, brown rice, or noodles, and you have an option to add stir-fried veggies. Appetizers include egg rolls, edamame, potstickers, and, my favorite, crab rangoons. Best of all - the food was amazing. My only complaint is the ice tea is not freshly brewed.
Customer service is attentive and staff maintain a friendly demeanor. Additionally, the restaurant utilizes durable plastic containers for takeout, which are suitable for reheating, dishwasher use, and repeated use.
I will definitely be going again!“

“Hawker’s Kitchen is hands down one of the best Malaysian and Singaporean restaurants you can find in the country. From the moment you step in, the atmosphere feels warm and welcoming, setting the stage for an authentic Southeast Asian dining experience.
The food is outstanding — every dish is cooked with care and packed with rich, bold flavors that taste just like what you’d find at hawker stalls in Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. The ingredients are fresh, portions are generous, and the balance of spices is perfect. Whether you’re craving savory noodles, fragrant rice dishes, or their incredible curry noodle soup (laksa), everything here is a hit.
The service is just as impressive as the food. The staff are friendly, attentive, and passionate about what they serve, which really elevates the whole experience. You can tell they take pride in sharing authentic Asian flavors with their customers.
If you’ve been searching for a place to satisfy your Asian food cravings, look no further. Hawker’s Kitchen won’t disappoint. I highly recommend this spot — once you try it, you’ll definitely come back for more!“

“I absolutely love this place!! My husband and I discovered it recently and had the teriyaki bowls with steak and chicken & enjoyed both the noodles and rice as well as the chicken egg rolls. We were immediately impressed!!
Everything was wonderful & the egg rolls were the best we ever had!! The prices were really fair, especially considering the huge portions!! Best bang for your buck!
We went there again yesterday and had the pork fried dumplings - amazing!! I also ordered the scarlet sushi roll after it was recommended by the owner. I swear, the scarlet sushi roll, was the best the thing I ever ate!! My husband & son both loved it as well and they don't even like sushi!!
Everyone was extremely friendly!! We haven't experienced this type of customer service for years!! It took me back to a time when I was young, when people actually cared about providing exceptional service and strived to make a difference!!
We will be going back again today!!“

“Food is always tasty, and the service is consistently great. The owner is super kind and really goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable and taken care of. I especially like going around noon when it’s quieter and not as busy—everything comes out fast and fresh. If you’re in the Beaverdale area, it’s definitely worth checking out.“

“Fawn’s Asian Cuisine is hands down one of the best places to eat in Des Moines! The pho was outstanding, full of flavor and made with fresh ingredients. The crab rangoons were perfectly crispy and delicious, and the handmade fried dumplings were some of the best I’ve ever had.
What really set this place apart was the top-notch customer service. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in.
If you’re looking for authentic Asian cuisine, generous portions, and a great dining experience, I highly recommend Fawn’s Asian Cuisine. We will definitely be back!“

“We don't usually eat at chain restaurants, but PF Chang's is a great place to go if you need gluten free food (or non- gluten free, too!) in a nice atmosphere with good service! They are very careful about bringing your food separately on a different colored plate, so our family of Celiacs feel good about eating here! Fun drinks or mocktails, too. Servers have always been friendly & helpful. If you want to sit at the bar & watch a game, they'll change the channels for you to the game you want to see.“

“Great food court food. I picked this up to go to take back to my husband at work for lunch and I was so happy with my choice. I got the chicken and shrimp teriyaki and I got him the beef teriyaki with crab Rangoons. It was all perfectly cooked and so good. He was very happy they had a diet Dr Pepper too.“

“The service was amazing. The place was clean and decorated so cool. Options to buy by the slice or order off the menu. Outside and inside seating. We had the Chinese moz sticks and the loaded potato pizza and both were SO fire! If we ever come back to town we will definitely be back!“

“As you walk in you are immediately greeted by a friendly staff with a welcoming attitude which is also uttered as you leave. My wait staffer — Shaquille - was very professional and delivered my appetizer of dumplings along side a bowl of steam rice. As you circle the grill masters there are a variety of fresh options from proteins, veggies, soups, sauces and desserts. The grill masters grill your select dish to perfection as you circle around to grab your pleasant smelling creation. The atmosphere is trendy suitable for all gatherings to socialize with an upbeat crowd where there is suitable parking with a reasonable budget friendly menu for most diets.“

“Huge shout out to Wasabi Johnston! My daughter wanted to go there for sushi for her bday dinner last night. I called ahead and asked if we could bring in a cake, etc... they were MORE than accommodating. They said whatever we needed! They kept it a secret until we finished our dinner. Brought out the cake, lit the candles, provided extra plates, a knife to cut it and were SO kind. Thank you guys all SO much! My daughter was thrilled (and embarrassed). Excellent dinner too!“
