“I stopped at Lara’s yesterday for the first time, and was greeted with wonderful smells and beautiful smiles! The staff was very, very kind. I told one of the girls I’d never been in before, and she proceeded to show me everything on display. All of the yummy baked goods and pastries are huge, and the prices are very very reasonable! I left with 7 treats and only paid $9.50. Awesome quality, astounding service, a joy to have in Marshalltown!”

“Lots of people, mostly younger crowd, always music and dance floor is hot, nice pool tables and big acarde area with lots of fun games. Sometimes service takes awhile and maybe they could use more bartenders during peek hours but the bartenders are always working hard and are cute so it makes up for it. Good vibes in general.”

“I ordered the jasmine tea, sushi/sashimi platter with miso soup and a spicy yellow fin roll. The sashimi was really good. The sushi rice however tasted like it was not seasoned very much. Instead they just used the starch they didn't finish washing off to stick it together. The miso soup was lacking flavor from the broth. But overall the service was fantastic. They were very polite and the food we ordered came fresh and fast. My wife ordered shrimp lo mein. The noodles were cooked just fine and the seasoning was good. But there was one weird thing. It tasted like they velveted the shrimp. If shrimp is cooked properly, you don't need to velvet them. Remember C is cooked O is overcooked. ? But I would eat there again considering it's hard to find decent sashimi near me. If you're in Marshalltown, give it a try.”

“We have been there twice the first time was a Tuesday and they weren’t open. The second time is Thursday and they are closed for three days for the owners daughter’s wedding. I don’t think we will drive down again in case something else has come up and they are closed. We checked the website and it says nothing about a wedding.”

“Authentic Mexican in Iowa? Who would have guessed! We live in Texas, where good street tacos are prized. Maria's are as good as any I've had at home or in Mexico City. The posole was flavorful, and husband said the burrito was five star. Homemade horchata was best I've had anywhere. Every time we come to Marshalltown for family, Maria's is a must stop. Don't expect a fancy restaurant. It's window service from an old house, and you eat at picnic tables on the enclosed front porch or outside. But every Texan knows the best Mexican food comes from a hole-in-the-wall joint.”

“Every time I roll into Iowa, there's one stop that’s non-negotiable: this pizza place! It was my grandpa’s absolute favorite, and honestly, I get why ... the service is always top-notch, and the pizza? Totally hits the spot. It’s kind of a tradition now, and I’m not mad about it!”
