“Stopped here during a girls weekend. It was not bad but it was not great either. Stopped in a little before 9pm and the kitchen was already closed. Sad considering it was a Friday night and they stay open till 2am. We wanted a snack after having a late lunch that day and struck out. The drinks were not bad. They do not have a full bar, drinks are limited to what sells. It was also very quiet. We were the biggest group with only 2 other groups there. Had a bunch of pool tables, darts, and a few arcade games. But no one was using any of them.Bartender was very attentive and helpful and even did table service.“

“We live in Washington, DC but take frequent road-trips, primarily off the main highways, across all parts of beautiful, and vanishing, small town North America. The farming country of the Upper Mid-West has become a favorite region of ours of late, and about three or four years ago we happened upon Spillville, Iowa "a village founded by a German [that] grew into a refuge for Czechs. This small Czech village became a retreat for composer, Antonin Dvorak." There we stopped at the Farr Side, where we were absolutely charmed by its rare combination of a welcoming family feeling; surprising poster art; a good basic kitchen (I always eat at least one of their right-sized, right-priced cheeseburgers); a long Cheers-type local bar, and Community Center. By Community Center I mean we've seen half of the whole town somehow descend upon the place on a Friday Evening, group into different but companionable clusters - each having a separate agenda enthusiastically pursued – and have a good old Czech time – a weekend evening of good fellowship (farmers don't really have weekends) distinctly more restrained than raucous. We've been back to Spillville and the Farr Side perhaps twice a year since then and will be back again this July. There are other spots to be visited in Spillville (an outstanding clocks museum for example) and sights to be seen – the countryside in that region of Iowa over to the Mississippi River not far away has a lingering, haunting quality that draws one back, but the Farr Side is always our first stop. At the Farr Side we even met someone who has become a dear friend. So, like Antonin Dvorak, we could say that we too have found a refuge in Spillville, at the Farr Side.“

“Easy to get to, plenty of parking and large dining/drinking area with friendly staff makes this a great place to visit. We did not dine but rather we were interested in doing flights. Beer had interesting names using the names of towns in the area making it fun as we were familiar with most. Our brews were really good and there was a wide variety to choose from. We will go back again and will to recommend the brewery.“
