About Hoe Toy Chop Suey

Hoe Toy Chop Suey is a Chinese restaurant known for its flavorful food and friendly staff, though communication can sometimes be a challenge with some employees. The restaurant has a long history and a strong community feel, with many longtime customers who have been dining there for decades. The gravy, a key part of many dishes, has been inconsistent in taste recently. Some customers mentioned that it sometimes had a burnt flavor, affecting the egg foo young and extra gravy, while others noted it is made with cornstarch and lacks the usual flavor. The green onion in the egg foo young and fried rice was also barely visible.

The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, including Szechwan chicken, plain fried rice, Cantonese pan fried noodles, crab rangoon, Mongolian beef, chicken noodle soup, whole chicken wings, and shrimp egg rolls. However, some dishes like lo mein noodles, egg rolls, and fried scallops may not travel well and can lose their crispiness.

Customers appreciate the restaurant's willingness to address complaints and make things right, with many noting that they have received apologies and even complimentary items when issues arise. Despite some service challenges, Hoe Toy Chop Suey remains a beloved spot for many, with a reputation as a must-stop for Chinese food, even as some customers remember the earlier days of more personal service. The recent move across the street and changes in the spelling of the name have caused some confusion, but many still find their favorites here and praise the food as fresh and cooked to perfection.

Quick and quiet. Food was ok and service was good.
Their spring rolls are horrible it tastes just like regular egg rolls. And they were not fresh at all. Also the orange chicken was hard. When use to come before they moved across the street the food was really fresh and good.
I have lived in the South Shore neighborhood for over five years and I limited myself when I search for take out. Hoe Toy Chop Suey is definitely a staple of the community since the 60s. I am thankful for the gentleman that brought my attention to Hoe Toy. The food was delicious, the menu has a wide variety of dishes to include Bourbon chicken, and the staff is proud of the establishment. The only note I would make is that there is no delivery.
