The place is on its way out. If felt dead on a Saturday night and many things on the menu were not available. We used to go there all the time and we loved it. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back anymore.

Not happy at all. Disappointed ☹️ the food wasn't what I was expecting. Better sushi elsewhere

I love the fact that you have Ramen on your newer menu. And your calamari is among the best in Chicago.

The food was good but the service was a mess. We had to eat our food without the drinks and the appetizers came at last.

Worst dining experience I’ve ever had.
I literally created a Google account just to leave this review because the service was that bad. We were a table of three and waited over an hour and a half for our food — and the place wasn’t even busy. They forgot one of our orders entirely, and it took another 45 minutes before it finally arrived.

No apology, no attempt to make it right, and they didn’t remove it from the bill. The waitstaff seemed completely disorganized and confused, even though the restaurant was far from full.

Have been going here for at least 10 years, the food and service were a huge disappointment

The food was served totally out of order. I.e. appetizers were served last. We ordered 4 items, two were the wrong and had longer than normal wait times. Will never go back.

Seemed to be only 2 employees working the entire restaurant on a Saturday night which seemed ridiculous given the number of customers. Took forever to get food with some dishes not arriving until we were already completely finished eating the rest of the food. Experienced multiple issues where the order was either not entered correctly or there was a true mess up in the kitchen that caused things to be missing, cold, or delayed.

Overall this place was just okay.

Our service was pretty poor. Our server was nice, but the food came out extremely staggered and the staff seemed as if they didnt know what we ordered.

We ordered edemame to start out, and a few minutes later we were asked if we ordered a 2nd order which we had not. After a few minutes of ordering, I recieved one of my sushi rolls within a couple minutes, and we all received our food at different times, including the last person in our group to receive her food halfway through all of us finishing eating.

The sushi was just average. It was not worth the price compared to other sushi places - the sushi just did not seem fresh.

Had to wait at the door when we arrived - they just let us stand there - the new owner walking in behind us and took us and Hastings someone to come seat us. But then we sat there for 10 minutes before we got a menu. Another 10 minutes to order - sushi came out fairly quickly and was presented well - but was served before the appetizer (calamari came out cold and chewy reluctantly sent it back) then we waited close to 15 minutes for my for my meal to come out - so my wife had to sit across from me and watch me eat- bill came and they didn’t remove the appetizer- so they had to go fix that as well. Just not a good experience at all. BTW - This all happened while the new owner was entertaining her friends. we sat there watching their food coming out and being served- one of the items was the same skirt steak dish I ordered and was served well ahead of mine.

Used to really love this place, but the menu recently changed and most of my favorites are gone. The 'replacements' were not exceptional, and will not be going back anytime soon. Too bad!

Awesome Place 10/10 would return over and over.
From the Thai influences, to the far east Japanese stylings and the fusion of some American stylings.....THEY KNOCK OUT OF THE PARK.
Mike Shatzman a well known bizz wiz, has DEFINITELY set the table with such an establishment. His vision, immersive.

Union Sushi has been one of our favorite restaurants for several years. Tonight's dinner was very disappointing. The menu has changed significantly, with many of our favorites eliminated. Won't be headed back anytime soon.

Tasty, fresh and lovely sushi rolls. Friendly service and an attentive host. Unfortunately, both of our wine selections were unavailable so I think it would serve them well to update the list. The host was kind enough to bring us tastes of similar wines so we felt that they did their best to accommodate us.

I wanted to love this restaurant after reading reviews on line. Sadly that was not the case. A member of our party has severe food allergies (gluten, dairy, nuts) and despite sharing this information with the server, and being assured the food was "safe", we learned only after he had consumed part of the meal and began to develop symptoms, that the meal did in fact have one of the allergens. Though the restaurant did not charge us for his meal, the damage had been done and he was sick for days as a result. This restaurant needs to do a better job ensuring it's servers know the ingredients of all meal items so this doesn't happen again.
