Good rolls, like the variety with skewers. Modern, interesting decor. Busy night, never saw our server after taking our initial order until we were able to flag them down for the bill.

Can't remember the name of the bar tender, but if it wasn't for him, I'm not sure if I'd be back anytime soon. Took a long time to get food even though the place was not that busy (took about a hour and 15 minutes). Not sure if more employees are needed, or if the kitchen is just not used to being a kitchen, but y'all gotta pick up the pace.
Food and drinks are great, as well as atmosphere.

The first time and last time we were here was over a decade ago when this joint first opened up. It was one of the first Japanese robata grill joints in Chicago downtown and I remember our experience was good, nice ambient and sushi selections. I remember that I didn't care for the ramen and there was really nothing memorable.
We decided to give it another try after all of these years, just to confrim the reasons why we haven't been back.
The ambient is ok, much brighter then before, weird layout with tables and seats wrapping along the walls and that big pillar in the middle. The Saturday we were there, it was about 60% capacity, wasn't busy.
The menu changed drastically, it used to be much bigger with higher end offerings, wine / sake paring and such, now it is just like a neighborhood sushi joint (I think that is what they going for now), the sushi was good, but for some reason, they were really wet, drenched in sauce (luckily they were light) and infused oil. Fresh fish. They took the ramen off the menu which was a bummer because that is the typical order at the end of the Japanese meal. The robata was OK. The skirt steak order has a good amount of it, very tender but it is missing the grilled flavor. The chicken thighs were a bit over cooked, dry. They only had 3 beers left on the menu.
The service was OK but the food came quite late considering their capacity that night. The robata came up first and we had to wait for the sushi, and we didn't get our last orders of sushi even after we finished eating everything else, so we had to cancel the last orders and leave.
Again, nothing special and nothing memorable, the menu is too limited. It went from a high end date night joint to a screaming baby, bachelorette party neighbor joint. It is unfortunate.

The yam mash on guacamole was extremely good. All the Japanese barbecue was amazing! Pricing for 4, we ate a lot of sushi, was $258!
Try it out and you'll be pleased.

Vegetarian options: Tempura can be all vegetarian. And it was so good. Some starters were vegan

Most amazing experience. The food is fresh. The Salmon shashimi is really good. I recommend the sweet potato. The atmosphere here is calming.

The place is nice and service great. This time the sushi not as good as in the past. Sometimes its better Not to change the rolls we had always enjoyed and keep the sushi super fresh. Thats what keeps us coming back. Consistency is key here!!

Ever since we've moved to River North, we were fortunate to find Union. The staff is always so friendly and the food is amazing. The truffle tuna and lychee martini is my favorite!

This is my favorite resturant in the city. The food is fresh and incredibly unique. This is the only resturant I eat sushi at, everywhere else is disappointing. I can't recommend this place enough.

The reviews were mixed coming to Chicago- I decided to try for myself. Walking in beautiful layout, smelled wonderful. Immediately greeted and taken care of. The staff was phenomenal the food was fresh and delicious. Great pricing and will return

We use to dine at Union frequently but have been out of town for a while. It's changed a lot. New chefs, new decor and 80s rock music. All changes for the worse IMO. I doubt we'll be back

Union Sushi was our go to restaurant over the years that had consistently good food and service and the ambiance was always busy and energetic. What happened to this place? Awful low grade sushi. The Truffled Tuna was grey in color. The rolls were hacked together and the server was bad. The prices were high and the rest of the experience was beyond low. I ordered the toro at $20+ per order. I was literally afraid to eat it because it looked so bad. Looking back, we should have left the table after the truffled tuna was served. We won't be back.

The old Union is no longer, sad! The food quality has declined. The crispy rice tuna was great! California roll was average. Volcano Hotate usually a special bite was not. Disappointed!
