The food, drinks and service at La Principal are fantastic! We were a group of 7 who went to La Principal last night for dinner. The waitress was patient, accommodating, and didn’t bat an eye when we mentioned separate checks. The margaritas were delicious and they even had vegan options! The Impossible Vegan Chorizo tacos are delectable! Outstanding!
The servers were incredibly nice and overall it was great experience and great cocktails. The food however… someone else on a different review worded it really well: “it has acclimated to the common clientele in the area”. If you are the common clientele you will like it!
An imaginative and wide selection of tacos. All delicious. Ordering a bunch a la cart is a great way to feed a crew with something a little elevated. Highly recommend. And after you finish, check out the cocktail bar next door!

La Principal offers great food and service in a cute setting, perfect for food and drinks. The vegetarian Sweet potato tacos are amazing, and the Baja taco is also a favorite among customers. The handmade tortillas curl up perfectly and have excellent flavor. The restaurant's menu includes popular dishes like Birria beef, which is highly praised, and margaritas that are delicious. It is safe for gluten intolerant guests to eat here, which is a big plus. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the outdoor seating area is a great option when the weather is nice, although it can be loud next to the Metra train stop. The salsa is bursting with flavor and a decent kick, making it a standout, while the agua frescas are also very tasty. While some visits experienced slow service and delays, overall, the food was fresh, flavorful, and authentic, with a variety of options that are not greasy and quite unique. The atmosphere and food make it worth a return visit, especially for those seeking a fun and casual place to enjoy good Mexican cuisine.
