“This is truly a hidden gem in downtown Joliet. Food was absolutely delicious. We tried the pollo anticuchero, the lomo saltado and the papa a la huancaina and it was all very tasty. I had the parchita for a drink and it was also very good. We will definitely be back.“

I was left thinking out going again just because the tacos were a good portion, the pastor was the right amount of greasy not dry but the only two recommendations I had was the meat needed just a little more flavor and the red salsa was not spicy at all but was a good texture not like the water some places have in place of salsa.“

“We were celebrating our 20th anniversary. Our service was done by Kaylea. Although she was very busy, she was very pleasant and helpful specially when I had to return my steak because it was under cooked to my taste. She took the steak back to the kitchen no problem and came back with a little better cooked steak with a brand new potato and veggies! The shrimps cocktail was very nice. Overall good food and good service. Perhaps the prices are a little higher but eating out these days is more then it used to be. Perfect location, right in the downtown market where is the Rideau mall, shops and restaurants.“

“The food was very good. We had the Asada Cemita and the Asada Machete. The salsas were good and one was very unique. As one reviewer mentioned, the inside is a bit confusing. You would swear you’re in a hot dog place, including the menus on the wall. There was a paper menu on counter for Machetes but I didn’t even see it when i walked in. Wasn’t an issue as we looked at menu online. Dont let the outside fool you either, the food was great and its super clean inside. Definitely a nice change from the typical tacos and burritos. Some very unique flavors.“

“Just wanted to share my love for El Zarape in Joliet! It's become my go-to spot. I haven't tried everything on the menu, but their tacos and tortas are amazing. Seriously, they're so generous with the meat – way more than other Mexican places I've been to. And the best part? The meat is super lean! It's a little pricier than some other restaurants, but you definitely get what you pay for in terms of quality.

One small thing – the restaurant could use a little sprucing up. The booths aren't the comfiest, and maybe not the best for those of us with a bit more… *comfortable* seating preferences. Because of that, I usually just order for pickup. But the food is totally worth it!“

The elote was good, nothing amazing, but could have used more toppings. There is a tented seating area to eat your meal. Overall, everything was great so I look forward to going back.“

The interior was beautifully decorated, with a small fountain, traditional Mexican pottery, and with gorgeous leather chairs that were reminiscent of something you'd find in a study in a Mexican ranch in the late 1890s. Super clean and spotless! Very authentic in decor and flavor! The service was just absolute amazing! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

We're from out of town, and it was our first time there. The waiter actually came by to let us know that the kitchen was a bit behind schedule, and updated us on when the food would be coming out. He did this without us even complaining or asking (we were all having a great time catching up with an old family friend for his birthday), we'd honestly lost track of time in conversation. We all appreciated the waiter's transparency with the food delay. But it doesn't stop there: our waiter, once he heard that it was our friend's birthday, he sent the table a round of shots, and overall, just went completely above and beyond to make sure that we felt welcome and that we had a great time! We live over an hour and a half away, but I'm planning on making the drive again, later this summer with my family!
